Head of the class (stonegod judging)[Concluded]

ooc: As to starting position, Anvuss was searching so could reasonably be anywhere in the room that is convenient for the DM. Most likely, he'd be near the cloak where he found the note.

Initiative (1d20+2=17)

Tali's been standing in the corner at H7, watching, as he thought searching the lab was important, but the others were clearly much better at that sort of thing than he was.

Right now, though, his plan is to manifest his mind blade (move action) and put on his shield (move action), then get between the casters and any nasty people with swords. If combat starts, he attacks whoever looks the most dangerous, and will use his psionic weapon feat to do an extra 2d6 damage on his first attack.

If there's going to be violence, I should step to the front.

OOC: Init: 20+2=22. But useless, probably. She's hardly going to attack, though she is paranoid.

IC:
Raven holds her position & jerks out her short sword. "What do you lot want?" she asks suspiciously. She's standing a step back from the door, so if someone moves to attack, hopefully only one of them will be able to, whereas more than one of Raven's group could attack them.

Surprise Round

Raven draws her blade and steps back from the door, asking her question.

The armored man's surprised look turns into one of cold rage. His eyes narrow and he rasps, "Kill them!"

Combat, Round 1

The robed men all go for their sickles, a cold look in their eyes. You can see that the hilts of their weapons are crafted with an ornate design of golden tentacles over a silver wrap.

Reeger's eyes go wide and his face goes pale at the armored man's words.

OOC: Raven, it's your go again.

Shoot and fang are on opposite sides of Seat, who picked up the cloak. Anvuss is near them, passing around the note.

I'm giving this map a try, let me know if you like it, or if you have a better alternative. It's also probably important to note that the open door constitutes a 5' square by itself, so as it stands, Raven (R) is 15' away from the red robed cultist (C).

I've got first round actions for most of you, but if you wanted to change them, now's the time.

I found I needed two letters per space, so I've been using maps like this:

Code:

25 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |
26 | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |

As you can see, mine are very similar. It's handy to have c1, c2, and c3 on the map for cultists 1, 2 and 3. :)[/sblock]

Since Anvuss is conveniently close to the door, rather than moving forward he will ready an action to strike any opponent so foolish as to step into range. (I think cover would apply to attacks going diagonally into or out of the doorway, which makes it even more certain that Anvuss's round 1 attack is a miss.)

OOC: What skill would it be to recognize the design on the cultists weapons?

With the armored man's words, Tali prepares for battle, a silver-white short sword-like blade of light appearing in his right hand as he slides his shield on his left arm.

OOC: Manifest mind blade, and don a shield (both are move actions). Note that Tali is currently psionicly focused; he always gains his focus first thing in the morning, and if he has to discharge it, he regains his focus as soon as he's got a chance to.

OOC: Thanks Patlin! After this battle I'll switch to that one. And yes, any attacks diagonally into or out of the doorway would grant cover to the target. Yay! Violence! ;)

drothgery, good catch! The appropriate skill would either be:

[sblock=Knowledge(Religion) DC 15]While you don't recognize the symbol itself, the design is reminiscent of those used by the Cult of the Dragon Below. The use of tentacles indicates that this particular cult may have usual dealings with abberations, or creatures that are even more alien.[/sblock]

[sblock=Knowledge(Local) DC 20]It's pretty obscure, but if you had to bet, you'd say that design meant they were probably some faction of the Cult of the Dragon Below.[/sblock]

The DC's are high because the information isn't all that well known yet.
