Head of the class (stonegod judging)[Concluded]

El Jefe said:
Fang slumped to the floor. "Fang! Are you OK?", bellowed the spindly warforged, seeing his animal sprawled half under the table and half to the side. He laid flat on the table to reach down and shake Fang, who quickly rose from his magic-induced slumber. "Sic 'em, Fang!", called the druid, while rising back to his knees and pointing to the cultists in the doorway.

OOC: The sleep spell hasn't gone off yet (it was pointed out to me that it is a 1 round casting time), so Fang hasn't fallen victim to it yet. (And won't, if Anvuss gets the door closed). My apologies, hopefully after this confusing round is resolved I won't make any more glaring mistakes like that.

Would slamming the door with an unconcious cultist in it be a bull rush? He's not really in much of a position to make an opposed strength check and even if I fail to get it all the way closed I'll probably prevent it from targeting all of the intended folk.

OOC: stonegod can feel free to correct me, but I'd think that you should be able to manage it as long as you have enough strength to push 175 pounds (the weight of the cultist and his gear). But let's wait and see what El Jefe wants Fang and Shoot to do, as it might affect your action.

ooc: The idea was making #2 run and provoke those AoOs, effectively using the spell to provide the party with more attacks, but then again I had to make myself clear. At least they got the bonuses against a frightened target.

OOC: Which he certainly would have done. I was going to have him act on your initiative, but saw that I was mistaken. So, had he lived past Tali's initial attack (Tali acts before #2 in the initiative count), he would have drawn the two AOO's (which would have missed) on his way out. Sorry about the confusion. Basically, you cast cause fear, and Tali moved in and cut him down before he could flee.

OOC: I appreciate all of you having patience with me in this "trial by fire". I'm glad we are ironing out any issues now, rather than in a later, more difficult fight.

Maybe I should have named this adventure, "A comedy of errors." :heh:

Fang wriggled under the table as Shoot commanded, "Sic, em!". The warforged pointed at the cultists in the doorway. Shoot decided that if one wolf was good, two were better, and started casting a spell.[sblock=OoC: ]Ok, Fang should be able to move to the door and attack, depending on when the door is closed. Shoot doesn't know the door is going to close yet, so is converting Magic Stone to Summon Nature's Ally I and summoning a wolf.[/sblock]

Combat, Round 2 Cont.

Shoot commands Fang to charge forward, and Fang leaps into the cultists, closing his jaws around Cultist #1's leg and tugging furiously, but the cultist manages to yank his leg free.

Shoot begins casting a spell.

The armored man's footsteps can be heard retreating further down the hall.

OOC: Anvuss is up, and if he still wants to close the door, it will probably be difficult with Fang there.

No, I mean the error was mine -stretching it, a lack of teamwork- I knew the cultist had to run in his turn, but if those that went before the cultist would have delayed or readied actions they would have gotten their regular attacks and the AoOs

ooc: Well, it *was* a beautiful plan while it lasted. I'm not willing to get fang killed to block the sleep spell, though, and if he wound up alone with all the badguys after I slammed the door, that would probably be the result.

Anvuss will go back to his original intention: he will ready an action to awaken a companion should anyone fall victim to the sleep spell. He'll consider people/animals closer to the action a higher priority than those further away.

[sblock=ooc]I am very much enjoying this adventure so far, and it has substantially fewer errors than one of my recent combats (as a DM.) As I recall, one of the highlights of that mess was having to reverse myself on whether a PC was still conscious.

Other than redoubling my efforts to keep better notes of things such as hit points remaining, I managed to survive the experience.

So, in other words, don't worry about it! :)[/sblock]
