healing with a charge

Suppose a party member is fighting an ogre (10ft reach), and the cleric, 30 ft away, wants to heal the party member.
Cleric decides to cast Cure Light Wounds, move to party member - entering the ogre's threatened area - and finally touch party member to deliver the heal.

1. Is this doable in 1 round?

2. Does it provoke an AoO?

1. It's a touch spell, so yeah - if the cleric has a 30' land speed.

2. If the cleric only enters the ogre's threatened space (and doesn't navigate through it), then, no.

Even if the cleric didn't draw an AoO due to movement, he would do so when touching his ally. Per Table 8-2, pg.141 in the PHB, using a touch spell on a friend does draw an AoO.

Yea. its kinda odd, touching your friend provokes an AoO, but touching the enemy(touch attack) does not.
Generally speaking, AoO's are provoked when you divert your attention from an enemy. So it does make sense. If you are touching the enemy you are paying attantion to him, if you touch your friend you are paying attention to your friend.

Yes, but isn't it likely that the cleric has cover and is thus immune to AoOs ?

Yeah, but then you don't have to make an attack roll to deliver the touch spell to a friend - opposed to deliver a touch spell to an enemy. ;)

Kind regards

Funny, I don't see this in the SRD (I don't have the PHB with me right now). There is an entry for using a touch spell on up to 6 friends as a full round action, though. Is that what you are referring to? If so, it seems to be a special case of holding the charge:
SRD (Combat) said:
Holding the Charge: If you don't discharge the spell in the round when you cast the spell, you can hold the discharge of the spell (hold the charge) indefinitely. You can continue to make touch attacks round after round. You can touch one friend as a standard action or up to six friends as a full-round action.
Emphasis mine.

The action of touching up to six friends as a full-round action thus seems to be distinct from touching one friend as a standard action. I can see why touching two to six friends may take more time and concentration than just touching one, and would thus draw an AOO when touching one friend would not. For that matter, if you are simultaneously threatened by two enemies and used a touch spell on one, would you attract an AOO from the other? If you don't, why would you attract one when touching a friend?
