Heartwarder

Well, if you have a better idea than Exotic Weapon Proficiency, I'm all ears.

But it has to fit and cannot be overly useful.

And if you like it or not, the requirements are the cost for the better abilities of prestige classes. In some cases this cost is pretty low, since you would choose those feats and skills anyways, but often this is not the case.

Of course it is best to have some flavorful choices there. :)

Alternate to Exotic Weapon (whip)

IMC their is a bard/heartwarden NPC. I never understood whip (which, in FR, is soo a Loviatar thing) and changed the requirement to Improved Unarmed Strike. Much better than whip, and it makes sense that the heartwardens have have developemed some kind of way of disuading overly-amorous admirers.

I don't want to turn your thread into a debate of this :) but having a PrCl prerequisite which the character is never going to use is not good design IMHO. Consider that prerequisites are the only thing that all members of the same PrCl have in common, together with the 1st level features.

So when your characters in your setting hear of the Heartwarders of Sune someone tells them... "they are all good diplomats and artists and spellcasters, fond of enchantments and keen on using the whip". It doesn't have to be always a major thing, maybe the whip has some "ritual" meaning (urg... :p ) however the most important thing is that it makes sense. Maybe it's not going to be useful in combat - unless the PC takes other feats on that - however it should not just be a "cost", otherwise it's like having an entry exam of literature to enroll for computer science...

Yep, of course it has to make sense. :)

But it's still a cost and these feats are very deliberately chosen with that in mind, I'm quite sure. The feats might be used, for the sole reason, that you have them, anyways, but normally you wouldn't choose them. That's the price to pay, to pick suboptimal feat choices.

The whip is the favored weapon of Sune. It represents a strand of her hair.
