Heavy Exotic Weapons?

The special weapon materials (gold and platinum) rules in Magic of Faerûn alow one to make heavy weapons which have a one step damage increase and you need an exotic weapon proficiency to use them normaly. But, what happens when you build heavy version of an already exotic weapon (1) do you need to take another feat (2) it is not possible to make an exotic weapon heavy (3) heavy is a simulated size increase so you could weild the weapon if it was smaller or you were larger or (4) can you take one feat for a heavy exotic weapon? I have a never been clear on this point.

Feats and Skill......

Hiya,

I would say that the Heavy version of a weapon would require the Exotic Weapon Feat - Heavy Weapon, ie. made out of Gold or Platinum etc... and if that weapon was indeed already an Exotic Weapon, eg. Mercurial Longsword, then you would have to be skilled in the use of the weapon in the first place, never mind what it was made out of, therefore requiring another Feat, Exotic Weapon - Mercurial Longsword. However, if one wanted to use a Standard weapon made out of Gold or Platinum, then as long as they already had the general proficiency, ie. Simple or Martial, then all they would require would be the Exotic Weapon - Heavy.
Hope that helps....our DM came up with this after playing a Forgotten Realms campaign and it seemd to work ok......;)

The way I do it now, is that you need one feat, say for example you wanted a Heavy Kukri, it would require Exotic Weapon Proficiency (Heavy Kukri). However! The Heavy Exotic weapon and the Normal Exotic weapon provide no skill with it's counterpart. If you have ther EWP(Hvy Kukri), you're still not proficient with EWP(Kukri).

This is in part balanced by just how -rare- enchanted heavy exotic weapons are. Sure, your Heavy Bastard Sword may do 2d6 and you're able to wield it in one hand, but chances are you are -never- going to find a magical Heavy Bastard Sword. If you want it magic, you're going to have to do it yourself, or commision someone to do it for you.
