I disagree - ENWorld is not just popular, its one of the most popular D&D sites on the internet. It doesn't need to compete against smaller sites in popularity polls.

Of course, one could make the point that ENWorld has the popularity it does because first Eric, then Russ took/take effort to give people their best; if you offer what someone wants, popularity happens as a byproduct.

But I do agree ENWorld doesn't need to be in a popularity contest - we just need to let people know what's here, and what's to offer. Let popularity take care of itself.

Context folks. Take his words in context. Look at the comment one higher on the list:

SD:A decent site tainted by mod's who turn a blind eye to their buddies breaking the rules- and get heavy on others.

Ryu:Well, Then it sounds like a Sh*tty game to me. If exceptions are made for any reason other than correcting asn error... I cant take it seriously...

Ryu is responding to the previous comment. Apparently, Solaris is a site that seems to be based around a multiplayer text-based RPG (or at least so says their advert. So, he makes a natural (if incorrect) assumption that others on the list are similar. Note the reference to "the rules". Easy enough to think that means "the game rules"...

Hee hee hee?

Okay, now completely separate for the real issues of the day...

Does anyone else think "Giggling Morrus" sounds like a band name? :D

However, it does occur to me that a popular site's presence on that page actually benefits the other sites - a whole bunch of people here have no doubt checked out some of the other sites on that list after voting for EN World simply because they were curious once they arrived there.
I know I did. That Thistledown Hall site is pretty cool.

I agree, that could have been what he thought. But it does say "D20 News and Review site" in the EN World banner. He also rags on EN World in the comments section for his own site. It seems a little weak to me to slam a site without really knowing what it is just because you think it is competition for your own.

I've emailed Adlon and told him that if he wants to delete EN World from the list, I have no problem with it. The webmaster of Solaris is getting very bent out of shape, and is now accusing Adlon of fixing the votes. Probably best if we just leave quietly before he gets too upset.

[Edit - he seems to have edited his comment and retracted that accusation.]

I have a feeling I know what Adlon would say about that charge, but I'll abstain. :)

And if he wants to doubt the amount of traffic ENWorld generates, direct him to one of the Cyberstreet admins. :)

No way. Don't do it Russ. Playing the 'better man' will just make anyone who read those comments section think that we're the bad guys and willingly ran away from a good fight.

I say we just stick it to em. Vote for EN World because it's the greatest site on earth! (Now, that doesn't mean go and rate them at 0 just because they're competition).

The real IRONY I gather from this is that their site doesn't even allow new members...what is the purpose of being on a topsites list to help bring traffic to your site, if you won't let anyone in.

Seems rather egotistical to want to be at the top, without actually offering anything to the people voting for you.

He seems to be trying to get his site removed from Mortality. A shame that a perfectly good site should be made less available because one of their admins decided to make an issue where there was none.
