Hellgate Keep - who's run it and....

Oh, I thought it was somthing bigger than that. Like there was some sort of aspect of the realms that you did not like that came out of hellgate keep. Like Fey'ri or somthing.

Aaron.
Nope. I may hate the Realms in general since it can get out of my control very quickly when trying to run it, but as long as I am allowed to run the adventures I like, I'll have no problems. I.E. keeping it confined to one area such as the Silver Marches or Waterdeep. And then run all kinds of Adventures pumped with Adrenaline. With some regular adventures in between.

Oh, and as long as the PCs don't get too powerful, it alright to use the regular rules in this way. :D

I ran this back in the 2E days as a break for our DM, he wanted to get some play time in.

Unfortunately, it went all pear shaped, though in retrospect it was the normal way our group did things.

When they had to use the artifact to disable the whats-its-whats they screwed up so I came up with a "self contained" but completely wacky solution.

Drawing from that experience, I would insert a group of psionic or maybe just "psychic" NPC's who are trying to steal the gem from that one half-tanar'ri psionicist's head, (sorry can't remember his name). He's a member of House Dhargleth, the half-elf, half demon group. These people would be on the level with the crypts and the crypt things or whoever the undead are that teleport you outside.

Or maybe there is an overconfident rake who thinks he can woo the alu-fiend and wants the group to help him get pass the cambion so he can get her alone for a moment. He'd have to be disguised somewhere further in with the tanaruk.

Deeper into the caverns is a group of mushroom men who are tired of the evil residents using their brethren, (normal mushrooms) for food and are mounting an attack to rescue the fungi.

Need more?

I have converted some of the module to 3.5, and am running a party through it.

The plot is, that the Zhentarim are bringing back the Cyrinishad, and have to use three powerful magic nexus in order to do it. Myth Drannor, Darkhold and Hellgate Keep.

To prevent this from happening, the Harpers have sent out three groups, who must stage an assault on these places at the same time, so the Zhents won't have time to prepare their defences and raise their guards. Meanwhile, the remaining Harpers are attacking other Zhentarim strongholds, to lure reinforcements away from the three nexuses.
The reason this plot was made, was to give my player's a chance to play some varied, high-level characters, since we have spent more than three years getting to level 15, and now they are starting to want to experiment a bit more. This way, their original characters are only one of the three groups involved, and they get to play around with races/classes with the other two groups.

Anyway, what I am using from Hellgate is the Treants, the Dlardrageths and some of the more interesting traps and phenomena (wild magic etc.) of the place. I have effø'ectively changed the Chambers Below part of the dungeon to a Zhentarim base.

So far, the party sent to Hellgate has just entered the ruins from the huge gorge, going into the Assemblies.

A recent excavation has revealed a portal/stasis field/prison in which two beings have been battling each other for an unknown length of time. A modron battling an Inevitable.

A drider has snuck into the place intent on finding loot and maybe running off with a tanaruk child or two for dinner.

A bard, (of horrible quality but inflated ego) decides to investigate the ruins the same time as the party arrives and decides to accompany them along for the adventure, and "make them stars!"
