First time poster, frequent Dragonsfoot but need a place to talk 3.5.
Don't care for the Profanity and Flame wars at therpgsite and think there is to much chaff at rpg.net.

Hopefully I have found the right place.

This place is quite tame in it's vocabulary. I've only seen one troll the entire time I've been here.

I switched here from RPG.net a while ago also, because I wanted 3.x specific conversations. So far, I've not been dissapointed.

You'll find instead of profanity and flame wars, more good-old-fashioned jesting and friendly ribbing, some dry, sarcastic humor, and goofiness.

Oh, and occasionally something helpful XÞ.

Real Quick

Thanks for the welcome.

Played since 1974 OD&D (yeah I'm that old [53]). Moved to 1e then 2e then BECMI (my personal favorite, had a campaign run 18 years with same players)

Also big Traveller fan, same deal had a long running campaign

Found almost all of 3.5 at a garage sale couple of years ago 20 USD for the box.

Playing in a 3.5 campaign for about a month now. Been almost 20 years since I actually ran a character instead of a campaign (and I am having a BLAST)

Love FR as a setting as long as you throw the NPCs and novels out (love to read the books esp. Salvatore, just don't want to play them).

Hope you all like answering questions, <lol>

Now I am off to read all the rules.

Sounds like you're almost a me from another time, man!

There are a LOT of helpful people around here, and also a lot of strong opinions and dry, dry wit. Hopefully, you'll find the place to your liking and stay a while. :)

In 1E/2E, the DM had to set encounters based on his/her perceived strength of the characters vs. the monsters. You could somewhat look at hit dice / XP values and there were some guidelines, but it was a lot of mental work.

3E/3.5 tries to give you a crutch in CR.

However, CR has many issues, not least of which is the varying strength of the characters based on class and level of "optimization." There are so many customization levers a player can pull with respect to their character in 3E, that two "ninth level wizards" can vary greatly in power. This was not really true in 1E. Any two ninth level wizards were roughly equal (although of course, one could be played badly).

This level of customization is REALLY fun as a player, but can be difficult for a DM.

Just something to think about.
