Hello....I'm back from the hospital

Got back on Tuesday, actually, from my spinal fusion surgery. As I predicted, my doctor thought my back was a mess when he opened me up. Found another disc going the way of the disintegrated one. Still, surgery looked good to him and only time will tell. But actually I feel fairly good. I'm in pain, but a different kind of pain.

The first 2 days were pure hell. No movement, stuck in bed going stir crazy. Cathiters, IV's, morphine drips. One bitchy nurse, the rest were fantastic.

The next 2 saw me get stronger and stronger. By the end my doctor was praising me as the "poster boy" for recoving from this kind of operation. I am trying to walk as much as I can, but have to make sure I don't overdo it. I'm in a hard brace for at least 2 months. Not comfortable, but necessary to prevent me from doing something stupid.

Thanks for all the well wishes when I was going under the knife. Nice to be back.

Welcome back K_S! It sounds like the surgery, whilst painful, is probably going to save your mobility and perhaps reduce your pain (as a chronic sufferer of nerve pain I can sympathise).

Still, think of this as enforced time to come up with devious plots and deeper new setting details! :)

The return of the King. Best of luck in your recovery. As a workers' compensation attorney I have seen people have a great deal of success from spinal fusion. You have the right postitive attitude, stick with it.

If you smoke, follow your doctor's advice and stop. I have seen doctors refuse to do the surgery until the patient stopped smoking, it can greatly interfere with the healing process. Do the rehab and physical therapy religiously.

Too bad A Feast for Crows is not out yet. Hope you have plenty of reading material.
