Help a gamer friend of mine with bad stat rolls.

If I were stuck with those stats, I'd play a human rogue. I'd use the extra feat for Toughness (to bring up the HP to a semi-feasible level.) I'd max out Search, Disable Device, and any other useful Int or Dex-based skills that the rest of the party might need but not necessarily think to buy. Then I'd put the first level feat in either something skill-basing, something to bring up one of the two subpar savings throws, or Dodge. And I'd make quite sure, in and out of character, to make it clear that Mr. Rogue was not the sneak attack in the middle of combat type, but rather the useful fellow you'd rather not see get smushed.

This, of course, presupposes that there's nobody who's already taken the rogue spot. In all honesty, with stats like that, it might be best just to take on whatever role needs to be filled; if somebody else can do your job, chances are they can do it better than you.

I'd play elf fighter with those stats. Lets see:

11
15
6
13
6
8

I'd take combat expertise and spend all fight every fight burning all my bab on AC.

I'd say the character jumped off a cliff and died... can I re-roll NOW?

Seriously though, if the rest of the party doesn't have crappy stats like this, then you're not going to have fun no matter what class/race you play. You're just gonna be a burden on the rest of the party. If you're DM won't allow any re-rolls, then suggest just using a standard point buy. Thats what, 26 points right? I don't use them. Or the standard 6 stats: 15,14,13,12,12,10 placed in any order you want.

Basically what I'm concerned with here isn't your character well being, but how much fun your group will be having in general. And if your DM wants to make one character a burden just because he was unlucky with his stat rolls, then the whole group will suffer for it. And theres only one type of DM that does that, mean DMs. Only one thing to do to mean DMs...

Leave 'em.

Since the PH also says 4d6 drop the lowest, arrange as desired (and the DMG adds 25-32 point buy and default/elite array), I'd ask what other changes the DM is making because he's obviously running a very low-powered game.

28, I think, is the suggested, but don't quote me on that.

If you mean the elite array, it's 15-14-13-12-10-8.

I don't know, I think that depends on the game and the party. You might be able to have fun and be a burden at the same time! ;)

Play a bard.
Serve as dinner, then write up a new character. That one is obviously suicidal.
And besides, with a 6 con and 6 wis it is not likely to have survived kindergarten, let alone any training that may have been required.

i'd create some pregen rolls and have them set aside i'd offer him the rolls he got or to choose one of the pregens.

if he was still unhappy, i'd ask him what he expected from the game when he was told he would be rolling 3d6 in order.

I do believe you're right. Like I said, I've never really used point buy.

You are correct again, that was a mistake.

You could be right, I don't know how you want to play. All I know is that when I had to play the party burden once... I didn't enjoy it. Everything I said was either "Cleric, stay close to me!" or "Oh god it hurts! SAVE ME EVERYONE!! SAVE ME!!!"
