Help Building a Soulknife

And go Illumine Soul (from Complete Psionic) which allows psychic strike to work on "undead".

True it is only good if that is a prevalent target but. . . .

One of the Dragon Magazines had a feat "Practiced Mindblade". That worked similar to the other "practiced" feats, except, IMO, it was better. You could add your non-soulknife class levels (up to 4) as soulknife levels for purposes of enhancements and the enhancement bonus (+1, etc) of the mindblade.

Real nice to to able to stack with a fighter or rogue for "special abilities" - like more fighter feats (and specialization) or sneak attack.

If it's really all non-Soulknife levels, then take this feat and then go into Soulbow. :]

I like the idea of psionic shot because it deals with constructs and undead and other things that psychic strike might not deal with. But you are going to run out of feats quickly, so you might consider being human. That will also up your damage out put a bit and give you some extra skill points and a better movement rate.

Overall, if you are a ranged attacker, eventually damage will be your concern. You will hit automatically but be unable to use power attack to spend extra attack bonus on upping your damage.

Is there a ranged version of power attack somewhere?

For thrown weapons yes, but not for bows & arrows. Brutal Throw + Power Throw, I think? Would work better for pure Soulknife than Soulbow, of course.

However, the Soulbow gets to add his Wisdom to damage -- together with Zen Archery, you could have mostly Wisdom-based archer (with very little Dex investment required).

I haven't played it, but for a while I was tinkering with a Soulknife/Pyrokineticist. I think that's a pretty nice combo.

IMO this is not really a good idea.

Both classes have level based improvements that are necessary to get better.

Multiclassing a psion loses manifester levels (and access to powers) - which is bad like multiclassing a wizard with a non-spellcasting class.

A soulknife needs his mindblade enhancement benefits. Most of the other level based things can be worked around, IMO, but not the access to enhancements and bonuses to his mindblade.

1) Check out Dragon #341 for about 10 Soulknife- specific Feats (including the aformentioned Practiced Mindblade), some of which are better than similar ones in the contemporaneously released CompPsi. Instead of specific weapon shape mindblade feats, they have one that you can take multiple times (each for a new weapon)...so if you wanted, you could have a MindGuisarme, or a MindHvyFlail, etc. Another lets you form a shield.

For your "thrower" build, they have a Feat called Mind Daggers (or some such) that lets you form multiple, throwable daggers with your mind-blade. That should help your RoF.

2) Personally, I like the Soulknife/-kineticist build, but I'd only go a few levels in the PrCl (whichever form of it you'd take- see the Mind's Eye expansion of the PrCl (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20030328b and http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/psm/20040625e))- just enough for the bolts, the whip and the weapon enhancement, maybe 1 or 2 levels beyond that. Just realize that you're getting nifty low/mid-level powers in exchange for some of the nifty high-level powers the class gets by itself.

3) Bruce Cordell's Hyperconsious- almost a necessity for a campaign using his XPH, also includes a nice PrCl that combines elements of the Soulknife with the PsyWar. Check it out.
