Hmm Ideas for gaming

I have The Sunless Citadel, but both players have already played it. The fighter is the daughter of a minor noble from another country, part of a retinue visiting to cement ties after the alliance during the recent war. The paladin is a native of the kingdom, but from a backwater border community in the north, with recurrent problems with the barbarian tribes to the north. Paladin is LG, Fighter is NG.

Okay she's been sent to contact an ally of her father's and the Paladin is her bodyguard and perhaps knowledgeable about the area although having the gnome be their guide would make matters easier with them meeting up either at a tavern or at some point they've been told they're meeting someone to help them reach their destination however bandits have already pinned down the wagon their contact is travelling on and they arrive at the tail end of the battle managing to rescue a couple of the travellers perhaps including the gnome who keeps quiet to see if these heroes are truly thinking of the greater good rather then those who waged that war not so long ago.
The gnome wants to rescue a fellow traveller and they set off to help the gnome rescue his colleague unaware that this is a test to prove whether their intentions are genuine.
If they pass the gnome will help them, but if they prove diabolically evil he might become a regular villain!

Let us know what you finally go with and how it works out!

Late update: Thanks for all of the great ideas. Things went south...sort of. Second session the new player hit us with the news that he's moving in three weeks. So, we scrapped everything and dumped the characters into The Sunless Citadel since I won't have to worry about ongoing campaign elements with that.

Second late update: Biggus Geekus, the outline you posted above was so good it wouldn't leave me alone, so I'm using a variation of it in the PBP I'm running on Gleemax. I've changed the bumbling librarian to an extremely orthodox and narrow-minded paladin who will eventually become the main campaign villain blackguard.

Again, thanks for the awesome idea.

I'd suggest going to the WoTC D&D site and downloading the adventure "A Dark and Stormy Knight." You can play it in a few hours and it will stave off "not having anything" for at least one more session.

Amen to that. Can't go wrong there.
