Help! How do I do a ball scene?

I did the ball scene, and Anschlag did dance, but unfortunately I was badly underprepared (despite all the great advice in this thread), and so overall it sucked. Badly.

But I did accomplish all the stuff I wanted to ,(introduced Lord John, poisoned Azharadian, introduced the fop and his unwilling fiancee).

Now the fiancee has run away to hang out with the PCs, which the fop is extremely unhappy about, which could make things interesting...

Sorry to hear it didn't work out as you'd hoped..... but it does sound like you've generated a great, hook-rich situation.

I think a major part of the problem is that the ball was beyond both my and my players role playing skills. Better to slowly add role playing scenes into the monster bashing, rather than go all out like I did.

Sounds like it wasn't a complete waste of time. You added in the key points you wanted to keep the campaign moving along. What was it about the role-playing that didn't feel like it worked out so well?
