[HELP] How do you use your vinyl mats?

I have a problem. I'd like to be able to draw on the vinyl grid mat I own so I can detail the various places the PCs wander through. Unfortunately, every "erasible" marker I've tried leaves permanent stains on the mat.

Ideally there's a marker type out there that completely wipes away. We've been using 1" square blocks as well as dominoes to outline dungeon maps and whatnot, but I'm unsatisfied with these methods. One, if you use the 1" square blocks then all your walls must be 5 feet thick, and two, dominoes are messy and are easily knocked over when players move their miniatures.

Is there a type of marker that completely erases? I need more flexibility to draw on my mat.

i use special markers, they are thin and come in a 4 pack. WARNING: DO NOT USE RED MARKERS EVER! they stain! Use black at all costs or blue..

Overhead Projector pens will work without staining. Just remember you'll need a wet rag to erase and a dry rag to prepare the mat for more drawing.

If you need lots of colours get, Crayola washable markers, they don't draw as well but they work well enough.

or go to a graphic supply shop and get "striping tape" easy up and down(test on a small area before use) and curves pretty well too.....doesn't smudge like markers

With the other markers you do not have to have wet and dry rags. The rags are a pain, I would love to get rid of them. Please inform.
