Help identifying contents of the Ravenloft box set and House of Strahd

OK, quick question to you guys, as you seem knowledgeable.. I'm starting my campaign in Forgotten Realms, and the eventual goal will be passing through the mists that have suddenly surrounded the spine of the world and become the topic of much debate from local sages as no one can enter the mists as of yet. At such point the characters have leveled up and fought through a series of adventures leading them to these mists and tempting them to find the way to enter, I'm going to run the House of Strahd/Ravenloft module, or most likely a modified version of it.

My question is this.. what are the properties of the Sun Blade and Symbol of Ravenkind, what manual is it found in, and would one of these be a good entrance key to the mists..or should they be confined within the Demiplane of Dread? I'm not really 100% sure as to what role these two items play in the Ravenloft module... so I'm wondering if I need to save them for that or can introduce one early.

One of the classic intros into the module is that a PC finds a blade in a magic treasure pile (a bastard sword) that obviously has the wrong hilt. The crossguard is the wrong style. Yet the sword is magical (+2 usually) so they keep it. Later, they find out the blade is the Sunsword and the the real hilt is in the Castle. By finding and combining the two, they unlock the sunsword.

Both items are in the module, as well as (I think) in Domains of Dread.
 

Are there any specific properties to the Sunsword, or is it a regular Sunsword? I've seen it referred to as Sergei's Sun Blade as well.. makes it more confusing. I am wondering because I read a review of House of Strahd that said the module does not give the properties of the Sunsword and the Symbol of Ravenkind..instead it directs you to Realms Of Terror for the stats. That kinda sucks if I have to buy Realms of Terror just to get the stats for items in a separate module.
 

Off of Memory from I6, the Sunsword was a +2, +3 vs undead with like an extra 10 damage to vampires. The Holy Symbol added a +2 or +3 to turn undead and I think it had a daylight spell when presented against vampires.
