Allright EN worlders. I need your help. Design a 7th human character with the following starting array: 13 17 13 12 16 9 The character will be meant for scouting, trap removal, and a secondary fighter. Use any core WotC materials including FR and OA materials. Please also suggest equipment. Alignment is neutral good and has Illmater as a parton.

Perhaps the thred title should be, "Make me a PC because I'm too lazy to do it myself." ;)

You should at least provide a build for us to critique.

Just make a Rogue/Fighter.

You could get some nice feats for fighting and got the skills for the scouting and trapfinding stuff.

Human Rogue 5th/Fighter 2nd level

Str 16
Dex 17
Con 14
Int 13
Wis 12
Cha 9

Feats: Improved Initiative, Combat Expertise, Improved Disarm, Improved Trip, Power Attack, Iron Will.

Skills: Disable Device (10), Hide (10), Listen (10), Move Silently (10), Open Lock (10), Search (10), Spot (10), Tumble (10), Climb (3), Jump (5).

Fights with Longsword (EDIT: or Flail) and Buckler (for either one-handed Combat Expertise/Disarm/Trip or two-handed Power Attack).

Using your build he might want to go with the Fail (Light Fail in 3.0) same base damage as the Longsword with a lower crit (x2) but if he is tripped during his trip attempts it can be dropped to avoid being tripped and it gives a +2 bonus on opposed attack rolls made to disarm an enemy (including the roll to avoid being disarmed if such an attempt fails).

Yep, the flail would be a good choice probably, given that it's useful for both disarm and trip, altho I like the style of the longsword better, but that is just me. :)

Anyways, this would be a very versatile supportive fighter with all the skills you need for scouting missions.

17 16 13 13 12 9 with a +1 involved.

Half-orc barbarian 4 / rogue 3

Str 20
Dex 16
Con 13
Int 10
Wis 13
Chr 07

HP: 6 + 4d12 + 2d6 + 7 = 46

Feats: PA, Cleave, Expert Tactician (if not allowed, go with 2 Wpn - you'll eventually want to get a couple of those)

Skills:
Search 10 / 10
Disable Device 10 / 10
Hide 9 /13
Move 9 /13
Tumble 10 /14
Listen 9 / 10
Jump 4 / 9
Climb 3 / 8

Continue to advance as a rogue until 20th level, gaining 2 wpn fighting feats.

This type of character makes a good secondary fighter type. At higher levels, when your trap detection abilities become less useful, your high AB and sneak attack damage combined with good magic items will allow you to be a fine front line fighter.

Hehehe, which part of human level 7 char did you misunderstand, jg ;)

Secondary fighters are IMHO best archers. Go for Dex 18, strength 16, con and int 13, wis 12 and cha 9. I'd take two or four ranger levels for fun and feats and put the rest into rogue.

Use Magic Device, a wand of GMW and a wand of Flame Arrow. Mighty comp bow. The three feats you have: C-expertise, Improved Trip and something you love (or Precise Shot if you took PBS as human bonus feat). Give him a polearm for tripping and he can fight behind your party tank if he has to.

OK here we go…

Ranger 2 / Cleric 1 / Fighter 4 (Taken R, C, F, F, F, F, R)

Str: 16
Dex: 18 (added the +1 for 4th level) (+2 with gloves total 20)
Con: 13
Int: 12
Wis:13
Cha: 9

Cleric domains are Magic and Luck
Ranger enemy is Humans (or whatever you are fighting most in your world)

Feats: Dodge, mobility, Shot of the Run, Point blank shot, Precise shot, Weapon focus Longbow, Weapon Specialization Longbow,

Also has Rapid shot from the ranger levels.

Skills: (ranks + modifier = Total)
Move silently (6+5=11) (=16 with armor)
Listen (5+1=6)
Climb (9+3=12)
Hide (6+5=11) (+16 with armor)
Heal (4+1=5)
Ride (1+5=6)
Search (6+1=7)
Spot (6+1=7)
Survival (4+1=5)
Swim (8+3=11)

Gear- (Total Gp = 19,000 Gp)
Gloves of Dex +2 (4,000)
Mithral Chain shirt +1, Shadow, Silent Moves (5,850)
Composite Longbow (Str +3) +1 Shock (8,700)

450 Gp Left for other gear

As soon as you can, get him some wands of silence, invisibility, and other fun stuff. Remember that this guy can use any wand (as long at the spell in on the cleric or mage/sorcerer list).

Attack with the bow (Bab 6/1 + Dex 5 + Weapon focus 1 + Bow 1 = +13/8)
Damage with the bow ( 1D8 +6 + 1D6 Electric)
AC with the armor – 20 (need to bump that up soon too)

With his cleric spells, he should memorize mostly Entropic shield, Obscuring mist, and Protection from ??.

There you go, others, please tweak, I’m a little groggy this early in the morning.

Human Fighter 4/Rogue 3. (Order of levels is R, F, F, F, F, R, R.)

+1 to DEX at 4th level:
STR 16, DEX 18, CON 13, INT 13, WIS 12, CHA 9

BAB: +6
HP: 6+3d6+3d10+7=40 on average
Saves: Fort +6/Ref +8/Will +3

Feats: Dodge, Two-Weapon Defense, Two-Weapon Fighting, Weapon Focus (Longbow), Weapon Specialization (Longbow), Weapon Focus (Shortsword), Weapon Specialization (Shortsword)

Skill points: 10*4 + 4*4 + 2*10 = 76. Skill ranks:

Disable Device 10 (11 with INT)
Climb 9 (12 with STR)
Hide 7 (11 with DEX, 16 with Cloak)
Jump 7 (12 with STR + Tumble synergy)
Listen 9 (10 with WIS)
Move Silently 7 (11 with DEX, 16 with Boots)
Search 10 (11 with WIS)
Spot 9 (10 with WIS)
Tumble 8 (14 with DEX + Jump synergy)

Gear (19,000gp):
Boots of Elvenkind +5 Move Silently (2,500)
Cloak of Elvenkind +5 Hide (2,500)
Gauntlets of Ogre Power +2 (4,000)
Mithral Chain Shirt +1 (2,100)
Shortsword +1 (2,310)
Shortsword +1 (2,310)
Composite Longbow (Str +4) +1 (2,675)
Total: 18,395gp, 605gp spare - get Masterwork Thieve's Tools, Climbing Kit, etc.

Attack with Bow (WF = Weapon Focus):
BAB +6/+1 + DEX 4 + WF 1 + Bow 1 = +12/+7

Damage with Bow (WS = Weapon Specialization):
1d8 + STR 4 + WS 2 + Bow 1 = 1d8 + 7 = 11.5 on average, +2d6 if Sneak Attack

Attack with 2 Shortswords:
Primary: BAB +4/-1 + STR 4 + WF 1 + Shortsword 1 = +10/+5
Secondary: BAB +4 + STR 4 + WF 1 + Shortsword 1 = +10

Alternatively, for defense use 1 Shortsword + Heavy Darkwood Shield (no armor check penalty) for an extra +1 AC, and +2 attack bonus on primary attacks (no secondary attacks).

Damage with Shortswords:
Primary: 1d8 + STR 4 + WS 2 + Shortsword 1 = 1d6 + 7 = 10.5 on average, +2d6 if Sneak Attack
Secondary: 1d8 + STR 2 + WS 2 + Shortsword 1 = 1d6 + 5 = 8.5 on average, +2d6 if Sneak Attack

AC: 10 + 4 DEX + 1 Two-Weapon Defense + 5 Mithril Shirt = 20, +1 vs. one opponent due to Dodge

Dishes out damage well in melee and with a bow.
