Help me build a psion?

I'm planning on playing a Psion in my friend's new level 5 campaign, since I just got the expanded psionic's handbook. However, I'm pretty new to psionics, so I'm not sure which feats or powers to take. The character has to be Human. Thanks for your help.

Okay, give us a theme. Do you have a feel for what you want the PC to specialize in? Psions can be movement specialists, experts in flinging energy or creating monsters out of solid thought, sensitive to divination. . . the more you can tell us about what you like, the easier it is to help.

Psionic Meditation is a must-have.

Don't pick up too many feats that expend the psionic focus.
(Greater) Psionic Endowment ist good, of course.

Other than that, just pick up what you like.

Well, I'm hoping to be able to fling several offensive powers in addition to having a somewhat good ability to buff my teammates out of combat.

Then you should play a wizard. ;)

j/k

Buffing your teammates is something psions are not particularily good at.

The best offensive (flashy) powers are in the Psychokinesis discipline, so it might make sense to go that route.

Well, if you want to do the most damage possible while being sort of a one trick pony, the wilder is definitely the way to go. And Thanee is quite right that psions are lousy at buffing teammates.

For damage potential and flexibility, use the psychokinesis powers. Mmmm, exploding goodness.

The Psion_Nomad specialty is also a pretty good choice for staying back from the fight, especially "Dimension Swap" to help your teammates position themselves more efficientlyor react to unforeseen tactical situations. ( combine that with 'Wallwalker' and/or 'Speed of Thought' and you can do some really wicked things ). Although Nomads become really fun mistly at higher levels.

If the campaign is going do be reasonably free of constructs, oozes and undeads, consider a telepath (later perhaps switching to Thrall Herd ) for some mindbending fun - and nuke some with the standard powers if the opposition is strong willed. "Empathic Transfer" and "Crisis of Breath" (both 3rd ) may be considered borderline broken and drive your GM up the walls, so use with caution.

A Shaper is a nice variant of the classic conjurer but its constructs lack a touch of flexibility IMHO

If you're new to psionics you might want to cut your teeth on the psion (Kineticist). Their powers are more similar to the traditional wiz/sorc "boomstick" spells. Other than that, just pore over the power lists and pick out things you think would help your party. Psions make good backup healers too, with Body Adjustment and Empathic Transfer.

What do you all think of Psionic Body?
I know its better for a psychic warrior, but sooner or later (more often sooner imo) psions also takes some psionic feats.

Especially a human psion can boost his HP by a (relativly) big ammount at first level.
