Help me build an NPC Wizard

magistus

First Post
Please help me build this important NPC for my kid's campaign:

Caen (the Emerald Wizard)
10th Level Wizard (Diviner)

26-point ability score buy
Use only PHB, DMG, PHB II, DMG II
School = Divination
Prohibited School = Necromancy

Definitely possesses magic Staff
Definitely has Raven familiar

He's the standard Gandalf/Elminster type NPC you'd expect in a "classic" (i.e. corny) D&D campaign (the players are aged 12, 11 and 8). The only 'different' thing I'd like (if possible?) is that he can wield a shortsword pretty well... maybe owns a +4, keen blade?

Need help here as I'm dreadfully slow at creating NPC's in 3.5...

Appreciate any assistance....

Lvl 10 Wizard, I haven't done the spells yet, cause I didn't want to spend all the time if you didn't like the character. Also didn't make his cohort, which would be a level 7 character, maybe a plane-touched being for intrigue.

If you like what you see, let me know and I'll flesh it out more, if not, tell me more what you're looking for.

Hi MithrasRahl - thanks for the work thus far...

Sorry, should have pointed out that Caen has to be human... also, he needs to be a bit more sedentary... lose the crossbow in favour of dagger (which means he can take different feats to the 2 ranged attack ones). Also, he is a fairly popular, LG NPC, so I think raise CHA and lower INT a bit.

The key here is to think "role-play" over "roll-play", "fluff" over "crunch" ... Caen is the DM's NPC, and thus won't see much real action. He's there as guide/mentor/plot-mover/helper/etc.

So on the new feats, and spell selections as well... he should have that "Merlin" kinda wizard/druid feel, if that helps.

On the magic items, damn the gp costs... as DM's NPC he deserves a break.... lose the headband and gloves - I want him to have Bracers of Armour +5, Cloak of Protection +5, a +4 Holy Dagger, a Ring of Regeneration, a Ring of Spell Turning, and a Staff of the Woodlands, as well as the +2 Keen Longsword, Haversack and Amulet!

Don't worry about the cohort...

Thanks again....

PS: Is that PC sheet you use downloadable fom somewhere?
