Help me calculate movement for my Dwarven Barbarian

Lord Ben

First Post
Okay the situation is this:

Dwarven Barbarian with the sprint feat (Kalamar) wearing a breastplate.

I've heard people say that the 10ft increase raises it to 30 and then down to 20 after the armor. I've also heard people say it stays at 15 and you apply after to get the 25ft movement. The sprint feat should either make it 30 or 35ft depending on the first question.

Now lets assume I pick up some boots of S&S with my starting cash. They let you move at double your normal speed. Do I still double all the previous bonus's or do I only double the initial movement? If you only double the initial movement you get 20x2 of 40 with medium armor of 30ft movment and the fast move and sprint make it 50. If you double the end result you get 60 or 70 feat depending.

Thanks.

It's +10 to the dwarf's base move of 20 for a total of 30. Medium armor drops it to 20. I am not familiar with the Kalamar feat, but I guess it gives you +10 to your speed??

The boots double your speed, so it would be 40, or 60 with the sprint feat.

Barbarian fast movement increases base speed, medium/heavy armor reduces base speed.

The movement penalty also applies to the fast movement of course, since it is base speed, too.

You have 20" base normal (15" armored), 30" with fast movement (20" armored).

Same with the boots, they double base speed, and since fast movement is base speed, it gets doubled too.

You end up with 60" (40" armoured).

The sprint feat is not yet covered herein, but if it increases base speed, it should be used with the same logic. If it only adds +5", I would just add it to the armoured movement, tho, since adding +3" would leave you with some really odd movement value!

i'm not sure where it is in the books, but it makes sense.

30 ft base drops to 20 ft, which is 2/3 base speed.

20 ft base drops to 15 ft, which is approximately 2/3 base. (2/3 of 20 would be 13-1/3, round up to 15.)

2/3 of 60 ft would be 40 ft.

60' is down to 40? Where is that in the book, I know I've seen it somewhere but I'd like to see it.

Thanks.

It's under the section on "Mounts and Related Gear" in the Equipment chapter of the PHB (pg.113). A creature with 60 ft. movement drops to 40 ft with medium or heavy barding, so Thanee and bwgwl are right.
