Howdy chaps,

I'll be running my first 4ed game in a few weeks and it will be the first time most of the players will be playing 4ed. To speed up the character creation, I'm planning on making a random dice background table so they can quickly come up with a back story.

However I need some quick one sentence generic character background that I can use for this table. Care to help me out?

  • Bob the fighter has brown eyes but is heterozygous, with one allele for blue eyes and one for brown, and could thus bear blue-eyed children.
  • Sarah the ranger has the Apolipoprotein E epsilon 4 allele associated with increased risk of Alzheimer's, but given her choice of profession probably will not live long enough to recognize an increased risk of dementia.
Ok, sorry, but I HAD to do it ;)

Bugger, fixed the spelling mistake.

(switch gender as needed)

* He was a simple craftsman (toymaker/smith/cobbler) but the war (or event or draft or riot in the city) made him enlist in the city patrol to help. he now is on inactive patrol duty and when he has free time, he sits at home doign his craft as a way to relax.

* he was abandond as a baby on the church steps and raised as a ward of the church, never knowing his parents.

* he is a strange dichotomy.. out of armor, he is a suave ladies man at the bars, never passing up a moment to mingle. but in armor he becomes a serious and highly focused tactician...ready to do what needs to be done to protect the city and his friends.

I left these mostly free of details so that they players could fill in the blanks as they wanted.

1) Leaving your small village behind, you've stepped out into the unknown in search of adventure.

2) They laughed as they betrayed you and left you for dead, now you'll hunt them to the ends of the world.

3) Your noble upbringing was too constraining for your nature and the life of adventure suits you much better.

4) Your family is deeply in debt and the only way to raise enough money is to kill things and take their stuff.

5) You left your privileged circumstances under a cloud vowing to return one day and clear your name.

6) Your father was a respected member of his profession, your grand father was a respected member of his profession and your great-grand father was a respected member of his profession, but you are certain that it is not the life for you.

7) Strange dreams have troubled you since childhood and you have left to seek their meaning.

8) You never knew your family, but recently you have discovered some clue to your heritage and have left in search of your identity.

9) You've fought in every war and nearly every battle for the last decade and what do you have to show for it? Time to do something for yourself.

10) It is a tradition among your people to venture fourth into the unknown to see if you are worthy and capable before returning to your home.

11) An evil man killed your father and laughed at your threats of revenge, now it is time to train your body and mind until you can be the one laughing at him.

12) Your famous relative recently died and left you his old adventuring gear which you have donned in order to carry on his legacy.

13) Taken as a slave in your youth, you have recently escaped and shall never be held captive again.

14) Your best friend went missing sometime ago and you have set forth in search of him.

15) Power, isn't that reason enough for anything?

An excellent idea for a thread.

I'll move it into the General RPG discussion forum, since it is applicable to all RPG campaigns, and not just 4e.

Cheers

-He's a musician with a messianic complex.

-She grew up on the back streets of the rotten side of town.

Will get back later with some more.

1) What is this strange world that you woke up in, and who are you? Wow, look what you can do! Holy crap, a monster!

2) You come from a nice family, all of who are still alive, in a village that's still intact. You just want to see the world.

3) The only family you ever knew was a tribe of orcs, who raised you rough but you survived, until the age of ten when mercenaries slaughtered them. Now you're on a vendetta to find those "adventurer" scum, and the best way to find them is to pose as one.

4) A bastard son of some noble, you'll never hold your rightful title. That doesn't mean that you can't be the most legendary hero around, rubbing your fame in your dismissed family's face.

5) A great hero has died, and when the ritual of bringing him back was cast, something went terribly, terribly wrong; you woke up in his body after having died from a goblin assault. Can you live up to the name of the body you wear?
