Help me convince my players that the Cleric is cool

Have you read my profile?

My two favorite subjects are politics and religion.

I particulary enjoy discussing the links between heresy and revolutionary movements.

Our party rogue worships Bhaal.

Our most moral PC is a Kossuthan cleric who kills defenseless war captives.

Bring it on .... :)
Well, you'll be served. That setting is ALL about society, politics, and religion. As a matter of fact (MY PLAYERS DO NOT READ)
in that campaign, the players will be HERETICS (according to the state) and REVOLUTIONARIES.
. So, you see, you would actually like playing in my game, contrary to your first statements ! ;)

Well, I do need a fourth player, but California is a tad far from Montreal...

As a GM I would try to work with the Players on not having a cleric, within their group but would heavily suggest they do have one.

As a Player- I have resigned myself to (in the future) play the Cleric, because no one else wants to and every group should have one.

Adventures without a cleric have taught me that they are arguably the most needed class in a group.

Peace to you all.

Choking on all the rules "options".....

I absolutely want one of them to roll a 1st level Cleric in my next campaign.

-"But I don't want to be stuck curing the others all the time" ...

What argument would you use ?

I have a simple idea instead of all this rule-crunching craziness.

"If you do not worship my god, tithe to my church or otherwise pay your respects to her power, then don't expect to receive her miracles freely. My faith grants me the reward of miracles, but only those who have the same faith and display it proudly are worthy of receiving them."

Make the characters appeal to the priest's player for healing through role-play. Healing should not be expected just because he is playing a priest.

Could we just ROLE-PLAY the thing for once? How hard is it really?

And I don't want to hear any grumblings about "party unity" - personalities and faith get in the way, they always manage it somehow. Why should a priest be any different from a simple follower who's quite zealous? I could certainly think of many real-world examples, but I won't cross that line of ettiquette. I'll leave it that plain so everyone can ponder it for a while.

Peace.

Believe it or not, we have an international airport here in Sacramento. Hell, even the Governator uses it.

I am just crazy enough to drop by for a cameo; now that I have a steady job, I can actually afford a plane ticket.

You know, I've always wanted to visit Canada (esp. British Columbia & Quebec).

I've heard it's actually quite beautiful up there, plus your government seems so much saner than ours. ;)

Ghouls Rule

Avoid level draining critters, and a cleric is no longer essential to the party.

Although you have made some good points, this isn't one of them.

You need to appreciate ghouls, my friend. No level draining there, just a lot of paralysis and disease.

Who says clerics are not essential?

Well it's not the paralyzed guy getting his face chewed off by a ghoul, that's for sure.

You are indeed crazy. :D

But in case you are indeed passing by Montreal, I would be more than delighted to make you acquaintance.

Thayan Menace, now that you've seen my campaign's premise, how do you feel about my request towards my players to have one of them play such a specific role ?
