Help me devise a My Little Pony game.

If you recall, back in April there was an announcement for a new Hasbro-WotC united project, a My Little Pony RPG. Well this has turned out to be vaporware, without even the slightest hint of news regarding it for 8 months. However, one of my friends is a diehard MLP fan, and she has said the only way she would ever consider gaming is if she could play such a game. She keeps asking me when, Ryan, when will My Little Pony come out.

I need your help.

By the way, I am actually totally serious about this. My friend, Resa, is getting married Saturday the 29th (to one of my gamer friends), and while I'm probably starting this too late to get it done in time, I at least want to get it done in time for her return from the honeymoon.

Now clearly two weeks is more than enough time to thoroughly playtest this thing, so I figure I'll spend this weekend working up the rules, and then send out playtest packets to a few dozen groups who are interested in running quick MLP campaigns. Of course, if you have any preferences for the game, you might want to let me know them now, before I get too far into the design of the game.

For instance, should I hew more toward My Little Pony, or My Little Pony Tales? Would you prefer adventuring ponies, or ones who go to school and talk about relationships? Are flutterponies and seaponies necessary, or should I focus on fleshing out the earth ponies, unicorns, and pegasus ponies?

Here's some background material for those of you less familiar with the setting and genre conventions: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Little_Pony

Act now if you want to get in. I'm only accepting 40 playtest groups; then I've got to close the entries.

If this game is rated E for everyone, I am totally in. My two daughters (5 & 8) are totally jealous that my older son gets to play D&D with daddy (totally).

If this game is geared toward mature audiences who happen to still like playing with doll horses, then forget it! What do I look like, some kind of fanboy! ;)

Good luck with your two week lead time :)

You seriously scared the crap out of me with your encyclopedic knowledge of MLP mythos.

It would be pretty great to have a game for my daughter though. :)

I probably wouldn't be able to get a game going for it, but I think I could, and also convince my wife to edit if necessary, if you need help in that area.

Do you want to have the MLP RPG based off of (what I would consider) the original stlye of ponies, where they are (comparatively) more like real horses, are riden by people, have the flutter ponies and seaponies, and all males are draught horses? Or would you prefer the anthropomorphic My Little Pony Tales version, where they are much more like normal people living in a normal town, without real people involved anywhere?

You could essentially turn it into a gardening game...
Maybe a collective gardening game. Rather than increasing stats or getting equipment, you'd essentially be acquiring resources for building a pony ranch.

Instead of XP, the ponies could acquire <RESOURCES X,Y,Z> (Wood, Stone, Hay) which allows them to build fences, stables, dig wells, and feed ponies. Fancy bushes with fancy pony stuff in them. Whatever.

Heck you could probably heavily mine the board game Agricola for ideas. Of course, the way I DM, you'd wind up losing some of those precious ponies to famine. And then they'd be forced to choose which pony to let starve.
