Are you looking for a term to represent active psychological resistance e.g. psyonic defenses? If so, the term "shields" (stolen from Kurtz' Deryni series) is what I've always used.

Or are you looking for something to represent a more passive or innate type of defense? If so, "spirit" leaps to mind...
