Help Me Find Dark Fantasy Novels! Please!

"The Hellbound Heart" by Clive Barker is the novella that was made into Hellraiser. Barker is very good for this kind of fiction, though I tend to prefer his older stuff.

Another vote for the Kane novels by Karl Edward Wagner. They might be a bit difficult to find though.

Lord Dunsany is another classic writer of Fantasy with a dark twist. Again may be difficult to find.

Some of Robert E. Howard's stuff definitely qualifies (especially his Solomon Kane) and there have recently been some nice omnibus volumes released.

I really appreciate the suggestions, folks.

I have read some of Barker's stuff, including The Hellbound Heart novella and his Books of Blood. I've tried, and failed to complete, [/i]Imajica[/i] a number of times... Perhaps I'll force my way through it this time (something similar happened with Otherworld and I now consider it one of my favorite cycles).

At any rate, thanks again! Keep on posting suggestions, though!

Found this in Clive Barker's Wiki entry FWIW

Barker wrote a screenplay for the American remake of the Japanese film Gojira but it was rejected by Toho(the company that created the Godzilla franchise) for being too "dark and disturbing" to be a Godzilla film. The remake was finally made by Roland Emmerich in 1998.

The Clive Barker's Godzilla... the mind boggles.

I'd recommend the following:
The Darkblade series by Dan Abnett: a true tale of murder, betrayal, and the thirst of power.
The Von Carstein series by Steven Savile: Vampires as they should be.

Wow, so far no-one has mentioned Anne Bishop.

All of her work, but especially the Black Jewels trilogy is very much dark fantasy. You get to meet Saetan, Daemon, Lucifer. The whole overtone of the setting is very dark.

Her duology of Sebastian and Belladonna is also dark with incubi (male versions of the succubus) playing a major role and the concept of Lands of Light and Lands of Dark.

The Elves/Witches trilogy is only slightly dark, but also an enjoyable read.

Toho wans to play up the sympathy for thier Homie G-zilla. This is why he has been trashing other monsters for Japan's overall benefit for some time. The American 1998 move was not allowed by toho to show godzilla eating human beings for nourishment to protect the image of thier property.
