Help me name a BBEG.

Names: the bane of my existence. It sometimes seems like I spend half of the prep time for my games just coming up with suitable names for the people, places and things in my campaign world. So I thought I’d seek the help of the community at large on this one.

Here’s the deal: recently a group of power-hungry cultists awakened a very bad individual from the world’s past (a fey Rememberer created using Goodman Games Complete Guide to Fey), who has set about returning his people from exile. This particular group of fey are remembered by folklore as the ‘hunters of men’, and are responsible for the myths of the Wild Hunt which are prevalent in the area.

Anyway, I won’t be introducing this guy for quite a while (the PC’s are only 4th level, and would be badly outmatched), but I want to start the rumors early. My question is, by what name(s) would he be remembered in popular myth? Others of his kind were referred to by distinguishing characteristics, such as Redthorn (named for the odd looking sword he used), and Nettlecloak. I’m looking for something a little more menacing for this fellow, though. In his natural form he appears as a tall, gaunt, corpse-like humanoid with flowing white hair and wrinkled, age-spotted skin which is always covered in fresh blood. He is associated with death, ill fortune, lycanthropy, winter, and the red moon (there being two moons in the sky above this world).

Again, proper names aren’t so important here. I’m just looking for some suitably spooky euphemisms. Thanks in advance!

edit: silly grammatical mistake

Actually, Redmoon is a pretty good name for him, but too close to Redthorn. Father Misfortune? Lifestalker? Or just the Old Man?

Demiurge out.

You could always go for irony.

"The Child" or "The Innocent"

Reasons: he was the first of his kind in a time that predates humans. people are not only afraid to name him, they do not wish to draw his wrath with names like "Moonblod" or "The Bloody Hand" or "Susan" or whatever.

Thrakazog. Laxative Log. Four yaks and a dog. Susan. Oh wait, Susan has already been given.:)

Seriously, though: Father of Night, The Silent or Silence, Snake Eyes, Bloodwolf, Dreamcatcher.

Maybe more later.

Father Banshee, on the theory/lore that if you've seen him, you're thisclose to dying...

EDIT: It also occurs to me that naming your BBEG after traditional Celtic or Scottish heroes might be an interesting exercise in confusing your player; Brian Boru or Fionn mac Cumhail, for example.

Manannan Mac Lir is another name that springs to mind...

for simplicity, maybe just The Ancient? The Dreamer? Master of the Hunt? The Ageless?

other possibilities... The Fell Lord? Dreamstalker? The Dread Elder? The Bleeding Prince?

for a sort of grimm/folklore tale feel... Jack Gimlet-eye? The Hoary King? Old Man Frostbite?

Wow, I'm spoiled for choices here; thanks to all who've contributed. Initially I was thinking of going with a more traditional, folklore inspired name, but I think it will depend on which NPC I have relating the tale as to which name gets used.

Sorry though, BG, but I'm afraid 'Susan' is right out. :p
