I see a lot of nettliness associated with this guy. How about something with Briar in it... I use the Dark Briar and The Briar's Embrace in my own campaign. The Lord of Briars? The Fell-King of Briars? Something along those lines?

Cheers!

Wow, I'm spoiled for choices here; thanks to all who've contributed. Initially I was thinking of going with a more traditional, folklore inspired name, but I think it will depend on which NPC I have relating the tale as to which name gets used.

Sorry though, BG, but I'm afraid 'Susan' is right out. :p

Actually, that's a nifty idea... have various NPCs refer to this guy in different ways, such that only slowly do the players realize that all these evil dudes they keep hearing about are the one incredibly hardcore guy, and he's just that famous/scary.

I was born 10,000 years ago to a tribe that is now lost to history and even to my own memory. I do not recall the many names I have lived under since then.

I was once called Cordan Tral by the people of the Empire of Nin. It was under that name that I massacred the Peoples of the Steppe.

I was called Illman Darkmoon by the people of Junan as I slaughtered their wizards and healers.

For hundreds of years I have been known by every ill name uttered by man.

But now I have but one name. A name of such darkness and evil that the mind cannot enframe it. A name uttered in fear by the very demons of hell.

Today, I am called.........Steve

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!!!

The Huntsman

The Horned man

Stalking Death

Or in keeping with the old tradition of calling the fearsome something nice so as not to tick them off (Fate = Kindly ones, Fay = The Fair Folk):

Father Winter

The Goodly Man

The Woodsman

I'd thought of using 'Lord of Briars', actually, but its so close to the Briar King (from the Greg Keyes novel of the same name) that I'd prefer to avoid it. I don't think any of my players are familiar with his work, but it would bother me... which is probably part of the reason I spend so much time worrying about naming things. Too much pressure to be original. :heh:

'The Briar's Embrace', though: that I may have to use for one of his Hunters. Its definitely too cool not to include somewhere.
