Help me out with some Mini's

ThoughtBubble

First Post
Allright, so for chrismas, I thought it'd be fun to get everyone a painted mini of their primary characters. Ok, so it's a good excuse to indulge in some mini work (something I've been wanted to get into for years) and not have to make space to keep the minis.

Nevertheless. I was able to track down most of what I wanted from Reaper. There are a couple of glaring holes though. The first is that I need modern people, jeans, T-shirts, and jackets. I also need to find some future (or starwars) people. Does anyone know where to find some of them?

Second, there's this one character, a half orc rogue. He's more of a face man then anything else. Uses knives, and intimidates the hell out of everyone. There hasn't been a suitable Half-Orc on the site, and I think I'm going to end up having better luck converting an assassin or roguish type over.

That means that I'm going to need to find a way to make some alterations, most likely to the weapons and the mini's head.

Does anyone know of tutorials on this?

And lastly, is there a good shop where I should track down some paints and brushes?

Thanks a lot for the help.

OK. Modern minis? Easy. Foundry minatures.

My advice on converting minis? The weapon swaps are pretty easy, but converting heads takes some practice no matter which way you're going to go about it, and you're on a deadline. I would stay away from that end of it (for now).

Paints and brushes? Try Wal-mart (seriously). Apple barrel paints and cheap brushes work fine.

Thanks for the links.

And when I say chrismas present, I really mean "sometime between now and july". So time isn't exactly of the essence.

So, I should probablly pick up some green stuff for basic alterations when I get moving (practicing up my sculpting with modelling clay first).

So the questoin. Say I've got a guy with a big sword, and I'd like to replace it with a dagger (which, convienently I have). I probablly need more than an x-acto knife. Are we talking something along the lines of a jeweler's saw or what?

Not only a jeweler's saw, but a pin vise, some thin wire and an appropriateley small drill bit for pinning. Some people might argue that you might not need to pin something as small as a dagger, but in my experience you'll wish you had the first time it snaps off after handling.

I take it you're going to try to resculpt a head... if you have any experience with clay, you might want to milliput white instead. Since you need tools too, here's a good place to buy from:

If they don't have a tool or item listed, it probably doesn't exist.
