It's not just a natural association for gamers, it's apparently a natural association for games designers because his description has from the get-go included a fairly intimate gnollish association.Yeenoghu could work for this I think. He's more about bestial rage and destruction than gnolls, although I can see how the association would be natural for gamers.
If anything, the recentish Yeenoghu "comeback" article in Dragon made it even more explicit and integral to his concept. But it already always was.
