Help Me, Please: design a bard

Please help me to create a 4th Level Bard (PHB Version). I have no knowledge where to start. The Concept is for a female Cansin (dragon 297) traveler/archer. I know that I want to have Lingering Song as a feat. But what about the rest please help me!

Stats;
Str12 (+1), Dex15 (+2), Con12 (+1), Int16 (+3), Wis11 (+0), Cha16 (+3)

Can you post the Cansin traveller stats?

With those attribute scores I would have built a Power Attack/Cleave bard with greataxe, breastplate... or battle axe, breastplate and shield. Perhaps with one level barbarian

But well... What was lingering spell again?

Cansin are from a Dragon article on alternate planetouched; they descend from chaotic outsiders. They get +2 Int, +2 Cha, and Entropic Shield once per day, and have ECL +1.

Unless I'm confusing them with something else.

I don't know much about the race, but I find that Bards can be a lot of fun to play.

The secret to them with their too few skillpoints, is to never max out any skill, except for Perform (unless you're trying for a PrC).

This makes them Jack-Of-All-Trades, but Masters of None.

Nope, I love the monk. Just the ranger and bard in the PHB got totally shafted and are basically worthless IMO. The paladin is ok but they coulda been written a bit better I think. Also the sorcerer is decent but Monte's sor is better then the one in the PHB because I think it represents the concept behind the sor better. More spells, more hp, more skills, and a different selection of spells, raising the level of some like shield for example and dropping others completely.

Yeah, I am really not good at all with chracter creation. Please help me. That is what the race is correct, Lingering Song extends the length a Bard Song lasts. Please help me with what skills, feats I should take.

I like the bard, although it's underpowered. For an archer, I'd go with point blank shot and pick up precise shot at level 6, rapid shot at level 9. Actually, I'd have made it human, but...

It's going to be a long road to level 6. I might ditch lingering song to get that precise shot at 3. At least you can continue singing while firing into melee.

For skills, Perform should be maxed. I also like tumble (so you can reliably hit a 15), bluff, sense motive, and diplomacy.

Level 1 Spells -- mage armor, charms, and cures are good.

Forget Lingering Song

I would not choose lingering song for any bard ever, period.

First of all, how many battles last longer (particularly at low levels) than 5 rounds?

(5 rounds is the default length of time a bard song lasts after you STOP singing).

Now, if you are an archer type bard, you can sing and shoot arrows all day. Sing for 20 rounds if you like. Don't need lingering song for that. In fact, you can swing a sword and sing at the same time as well. As long as you don't cast a spell, there is no reason to ever stop singing.

Or sing for 2 rounds, cast a spell, and start singing again. This uses up a bard song use per day, but you get one/level, and after level 2 you won't ever run out of them.

I mean seriously -- if you are a Bard5, how likely is it you will need more than 5 bardic song uses a day? Never, in my experience.

try this: level1: Point blank shot, precise shot
Level 3: rapid shot.

With (at later levels) greater magic weapon, haste, mirror image, cat's grace, etc. you will make an excellent archer. Plus you bard song applies to your own arrows (you are your own ally for the bard song bonus).
