Help me understand Greater Feint

Fenris

Adventurer
So I get Improved Feint. And mechanically I understand Greater Feint (I think) but when would I use it? Does the lose of Dex apply to anyone attacking the target or only the feinter?

So do I use it to set up other party members?

I have a rogue who uses Feint quite effectively, but I can't see how Greater Feint would help him at all.

Any thoughts, suggestions, explantions or guidance?

The only case it would matter if you weren't flanking the target or target couldn't be flanked (Improved Uncanny dodge).
Otherwise it isn't a major benefit.

Denying dex removes a dodge bonuds to AC if he has one. It helps spellcasters hit him with touch spells.

yeah, that could work: let us say a enemy has good Dex bonus to AC, but higher normal AC: so if you Grrater feint him. Mr. Wizard can scorching ray the sucker since the target loses Dex until beggining of your turn.

Its ironic but it seems Greater Feint wouldn't help the rogue that took it so much as would greatly assist another rogue in the group. Its the greatest rogue feat you ever wished somebody else had lol.

True, if you had a Beguiler (since they get Improved feint ability) and a rogue: it would be a grrat combo.

Or a Fighter with it (not a usual feat since it requires Bluff as a skill).

Ooh, or if you have an extra move action: then you could Greater Feint + full attack sneak.

Exactly what I was thinking, I need a feat to make Feinting a free action (or something less than a move action) or get an extra move action somehow.

But how can I get that extra move action?

Complete Champion has a Travel Devotion feat: granting it 1/day, extra uses require turn undead or taking it again.

Psychic warriors can grant themselves one with a Hustle 2nd level power for 1 rd (uses up swift action).

3.0 Haste granted a exta standard action (which can be converted to a move action), but then that is stuck in 3.0 because it was very strong.

I've flirted with making 3.5 Haste grant an extra move action, instead of an extra attack, so it actually mirrors slow (slow effective takes away a move action, limiting you to a move or standard).

In the RAW, Hustle power is probably the most accessible option. It can be had as an expensive tattoo (personal power, so x2 cost), but it's only useful if the DM lets you activate it as a swift, otherwise it's VERY self-defeating. :)

Inspired by an Arcana Evolved feat, I made this houseruled feat for my games:

Fleet of Foot [General, Scout, Monk]
You are capable of occasional bursts of speed or energy.
Benefit: Once per encounter, you may take an extra move action during your turn. Thus, you could walk up to an enemy and then unleash a full attack on him; move towards an enemy, attack, and move away in a similar fashion to Spring Attack; etc... A Scout with this feat can use a full attack action after using the extra move action to apply Skirmish damage to all attacks. Out of combat, this feat can effectively be used as often as a skill trick, ie, once every five minutes.
Special: A Scout may take this as a bonus feat, as can a monk with her level 2 or level 6 bonus feat.

(Yeah, Fleet of Foot exists as a feat name already, but it sucks so much I refuse to recognize its existence :) It's an awesome Eldar ability in Warhammer 40K, it deserves to be a cooler power in 3E)

But again, that's just a houserule...

Belt of battle in Magic Item Compendium will give you three extra move actions a day. Often you'd blow the charges on a standard or a full round, but with Greater Feint, I could see using the move action option.

Greater feint is a better feat for a rogue's friend than a lone rogue. It's also a pretty good feat to give a bunch of rogues, since one rouge can use it and then his 5 allies can then descend and wreak havoc.

If you're a rogue on your own and don't really have a bunch of rogue buddies to help, it's not the best choice. Improved feint does what you want it to do and in this case you don't really need to go for the greater version.
