Help me understand prone

Am I right in thinking that standing from prone doesn't provoke an attack of opportunity?

Crawling away from an enemy does provoke one (same as moving from an enemy).

Can you shift while prone? I didn't find anything that said you couldn't. But there was the bit about not being able to shift into difficult terrain because it takes 2 squares of movement, and you can only normally shift one.

Crawling 1 square takes 2 squares of movement. Would that also limit shifting while prone, unless you can shift more than one square?

Thanks.

Well you are not leaving the square so I would say you are safe. Mind you there is a corner case where you can't stand up at all (creatures occupying your space and all adjacent spaces).

No clue about the shifting questions.

Yes.

I'd certainly allow it (and so would Chris Perkins, though it seems he also allows people to make OAs with magic missiles). The rules for crawling state that you can move up to half your speed, which is different from every square costing an additional square, so there is no conflict here. How many times has a hero/villain in a movie faced his demise, as a weapon was coming down at him, only to roll/crawl away out of harm's way?

cheers
