Got a rogue and a rather brave paladin/monk (or anyone with good saves, for that matter)? Have the pally grapple the beholder, allowing sneak attacks from rogue. Rinse. Repeat.

What, specifically, is the beholder ganking you with - is it the anti-magic central eye or the multiple stalks?

in the mire just out side of a drow city in the underdark...

only the deep halfling can see due to the lack of light. the central eye knocked out our light sources

and the other eyes are popping at us.

I like the grappling idea. It's so ridiculous, it just might work. Or, y'know, just swing as hard as you can. Beholders don't have that many hit points, if you can survive their eye attacks.

Ahh - time for someone to whip out a non-magical light source before all is lost. Beyond that, one of the things we found out when encountering a beholder was that once you figure out where his antimagic cone is, standing inside it should protect you from the big lug's rays.

As an aside, huddling everyone around the magical light sources will allow two things: one - if the anti-magic cone is currently supressing the sources, the beholder cant hurt you, two - if its not supressing the light sources in order to gank you with its rays, then you should be readying actions to fry it the moment you have light again.

the characters are in the story hour in my sig.

and in the rogues gallery on this site.

i think fiddle is up first... so if i charge and grapple ...

do i have a shot.. str 12 halfling ranger 6/rogue 4 vs. beholder ?

edit: does my body block the central eye... and allow the others to rain fire down on the ball?
