Help pick a feat for my soon to be level 18 wizard

Fair enough - I see the value of quickening certain low lv spells. But god, using a 8th lv slot for a quickened dim-door...this is why I like abrupt jaunt...:D

For a pure wizard, Quickened True Casting + Area Attack Spell could be better combo example.

Craft Staff could be another good option if your campaign tend to have enough down time between each adventures.

Ok, another fairly simple one to add in: Easy Metamagic. Reduces the level adjustment cost of the selected meta feat by 1 (can't reduce to less than +1). So, with that feat on Empower Spell, your costs to unload empowered spells becomes only +1 level.

What is the source for Easy Metamagic?

Also Thanee, I am making use of Shapechanging into a Chronotryn for two full rounds worth of actions each turn, making Quicken largely superfluous (unless I really really really wanted to cast three spells per round).

Let's see if I understand how the archmage's high arcan works.

You permanently lose a spell slot to gain a special ability.

In order to gain a SLA you permanently lose a 5th level slot and in addition a spell slot of the spell you are gaining as a SLA.

Spell-Like Ability: An archmage who selects this type of high arcana can use one of her arcane spell slots (other than a slot expended to learn this or any other type of high arcana) to permanently prepare one of her arcane spells as a spell-like ability that can be used twice per day. The archmage does not use any components when casting the spell, although a spell that costs XP to cast still does so and a spell with a costly material component instead costs her 10 times that amount in XP. This ability costs one 5th-level spell slot.

The spell-like ability normally uses a spell slot of the spell’s level, although the archmage can choose to make a spell modified by a metamagic feat into a spell-like ability at the appropriate spell level.

The archmage may use an available higher-level spell slot in order to use the spell-like ability more often. Using a slot three levels higher than the chosen spell allows her to use the spell-like ability four times per day, and a slot six levels higher lets her use it six times per day.

If spell-like ability is selected more than one time as a high arcana choice, this ability can apply to the same spell chosen the first time (increasing the number of times per day it can be used) or to a different spell.

So to gain SLA - Shapechange you had to give up 1 of your 2 9th level slots (you gained one due to elf substitution levels) and in order to gain SLA - Polymorph any Object you had to give up 1 of your 2 8th level slots in addition you permanently gave up 2 5th level slots. This does not account for any bonus slots due to high Int.

Pretty expensive but I guess it is worth it to be able to cast the spell (as a SLA) 2 x a day (if it is one you really like and doesn't have an expensive material component since that goes through the roof in xp costs). In essence you are trading the equivalent slot in order to cast the spell twice plus a 5th level slot as a penalty.

Basically you trade a 5th level slot for an extra casting of a higher level spell (at the cost of versatility, since now you permanently have two of that spell prepared). So yeah, gain power, lose versatility.
