First Post
Hey im Benji. I left home last year, and so my mom, in retaliation, threw out all my D&D stuff. I was wondering if anybody can help me piece a half dragon human monk together before next thursday...

I guess the first question is to ask what level your half-dragon monk is, along with what kind of half-dragon.

Your LA is going to kill you.

Being a monk doesn't help either.

Sad to hear about your DnD stuff getting thrown out. If you want help rebuilding it, let me know.

First, welcome to the boards!

Second, getting your stuff tossed sucks!

What else can you tell us about your PC?

Do you have a particular design in mind? Do you know what books your DM has approved for use?

If so, we can use my Monk Database (see my sig) to find all the stuff you want to use.

In addition, this site:

http://realmshelps.dandello.net/datafind/feats.shtml

will have the text of several feats on it.

Another thought: as was pointed out above, the LA for being a Half-Dragon would be restrictive in the eyes of some- not something you'd want to do unless you have a particular concept in mind.

If I may so suggest, if you're really interested in having a PC with a strong Draconic link, there are other ways to do it:

1) The most common way is the Dragon Disciple PrCl. Its in the SRD and the DMG. It will require at least 1 level in a spontaneous arcane caster- Bard, Beguiler, Duskblade, Sorcerer, Warmage and probably others.

2) The Dragon Descendant, a monk-specific dragon-themed PrCl, found in Dragon Magic

3) The Initiate of the Draconic Mysteries, a monk-like dragon-themed PrCl, found in Draconomicon.

4) The Draconic Fist Monk ACF, which allows you to do additional energy damage on your unarmed strike 1/level instead of gaining your 1st level bonus feat.

5) Take at least one level of Sorcerer and take the Draconic Heritage and Draconic Breath weapon feat...and such other Draconic Heritage feats as you see fit to add.

It should be noted that none of these options are mutually exclusive.

A Dragonborn [insert race here] Monk isn't bad (Races of the Dragon Template LA +0).
You get your choice: Breath weapon, flight, or draconic resistances. I like the resistances personally, but flight or breathing is cool.
+2 Con, but -2 Dex.
Lose most of orginal racial abilities, but movement, ability scores, etc.

What level? A half-dragon monk will have to work pretty hard to make the different elements work together. We want to draw on the strengths of the combination while covering up weaknesses. One of the first things I look at with high LA creatures is deficient saves, but as a monk, that should be pretty well covered.

Multiattack makes sense, as it will allow you to add claw and bite attacks to your flurry of blows with a much-reduced penalty. Improved Natural Armor builds on the half-dragon template and helps shore up the monk in a nice way.

Hit points is an ugly situation. Monks only get d8s, and a high LA tends to reduce hit points drastically at low levels. Thus, although they are not popular feats, Toughness and Improved Toughness will help bulk this monk up.
