How about a chase on the high seas? Kinda like the Master & Commander movie.

Any may I ask, as someone to whom this campaign appeals, what's your "pretty good line-up of adventures'?

Just something to weird out your PCs - a large, bloated corpse of some giant sea creature floating on the surface, it is at least 80 feet long and 40 feet wide, it also appears to have had great chunks torn out of it.

(This is taken from my time in the Navy, we passed by the corpse while on deployment. Later, we figured it must have been the corpse of a whale that had been 'run over' by a ship. At least it was easier to sleep when we thought of it like that.)

An old man bobbing along in a pickle barrel. He is sunburnt and near death from dehydration. He asks if he can borrow a book, to pass the time until his daughter rescues him. He refuses to be rescued by the PCs.

Lord Melquiades: I started them off with the Freeport Trilogy, then they've taken to Sea to try and obtain the famed "Heart of Amun Konshu" (from AEG). I recently got Sandstorm and plan to expand that adventure to be much larger.

ALong the way, (in addition to finding the derelict ship with the Squid), they've skirmished with the infamous "Mad Simon Slaughter" and his Zhentarim Raider ship, "The Scorpion". He's a well known pirate in the region, who's known for having twin Minotaur bodyguards and impaling Captains of ship's he's defeated on the mizzenmast with a Harpoon.

I've got lined up: "Dragon Hunters", a junlge based adventure from Dungeon Magazine; "Headless" an icey environment adventure from Dungeon Magazine, and whatever else I can find to throw into the mix. I'm even hoping to have them lose course in a strange fog and end up doing the Original Ravenloft adventure!

I like the Pirate theme because you can get to so many different environments. Eventually, (after reading that other thread) I plan to have them find that Planar River and travel the Planes.

Still open to ideas and encounters!

Note: I picked up Dead Man's Chest (thanks for the recommendation) and I do like it. They have a 6-8th Level Adventure that will work perfect for my group.

The book is a lot of fun!

Mutiny! One of the new sailors is Black Eyed Pete, the evil pirate. He recently lost his ship, and is looking to get a new one. Yours will do.

Aboleth gets into the shipping business. An Aboleth decides to posess the crew (or key members) and make the ship go where he wants it, so he can sell the crew off into slavery and make money on the cargo.
