[HELP] Re-Installing Internet Explorer 6

You should just follow my instructions.

The maintenance instructions will not work if you have repeatedly installed/uninstalled.

I'm back, and stilll no change. Remember when I stated earlier that I can't download files via my IE? I cannot even download the small setup program that will help me download and install IE itself.

Any more suggestion?

P.S. Don't suggest me to order the CD from Microsoft. I don't have a plastic and they don't have information for money order/check payment. :(

Is there any reason why you can't just wipe out the OS and reinstall it?
IE problems are so tied into the OS that it's quite likely you can't fix it.

Newsgroups are easy to 'back up' - just remember which newsgroups you're subscribed to.
And OE is easy for the Mail Folders. Just save the file and re-import it when you're done.
Also the Address Book, if memory serves.

Well, I never did the uninstall then install OS, just the reinstall OS over the corrupted OS (Windows XP).

I guess I have no choice but to go back to the beginning, which I really hate doing so.

Some of this is going to sound stupid, but of course keep it in mind.

1) backup all your data ... pretty easy but most people forget the email program data ... for example if you're using Outlook it is best to export all your mail to a PST file. These can be huge so be ready to compress etc.

2) save any program settings you cannot live without ... example Office.

3) the best way to reinstall is to reformat the hard drive and start completely from scratch. DO NOT install over the original.

4) once you install, update the OS first before setting everything else up again ... connect to Microsoft and go for the updates immediately. Then go and update all hardware drivers etc.

5) start installing your software and getting back to normal (do it on a per demand basis and you will not have hours of computer set up).

And people wonder why I moved to Macs for my personal use.
