Help save the world....

Hey all, I was browsing another message board site, and I came across the following links in a post - these sites all have a button on the page which, after you click it, will cause sponsors to help a cause, as related to the sites name.

You may click once a day, and each time you do you're helping the world become a better place when you do. There are no contracts, no sign-ups, nothing. Just a single little button which you press on your screen which helps a good, just cause.

I know we are not really supposed to 'spam' (if you will) like this, but it seems like a noble cause.

P.S. I might as well mention that I usually hate charities; in many of them altogether too much of the money is never seen where the charity purposes it goes. I have no guarantee to the authenticity of these charities, but it is my hope that they are legit. In any case, what could be harder then pushing a button?

I'm a big advocate of people getting off their collective arse's and doing something.

You want to feed the hungry? Stock a local food pantry.
You want to help the sick? Donate blood.
You want to combat illiteracy? Tutor a kid.
You want to rescue an animal? Adopt a homeless pet.


I'm sure you get the idea.

I do - at 19 I've already given blood a half-dozen times; although now with 4 new piercings and a tattoo and a couple more piercings on the way, I can't give any more for another half year after I heal up :\

Doing a little looking, it appears it is legit. The only real catch is that these sites and their parent company, CharityUSA are not themselves non-profits, so their goal is to make a profit and stay in business through sales on their site while directing sponsor money to the organizations they assist. So, it appears that there is no harm to clicking as they suggest, I'm just not convinced that it leads to increases donations since the odds are good the sponsors have already earmarked a certain amount of money for charitable donations anyway, and this is just a way to get an ad onto your computer for something they would do anyway.

Ny, GOOD FOR YOU!!! As a veteran, we appreciate the donations, especially since most of us can no longer give blood ourselves (Mad cow disease is still a 'threat' from anyone ever stationed in Europe). I wish more young people would give blood, but most just don't care. Nice to see you do.

Yeah, I think giving blood is a great way to give back to people and the community. After all, you regenerate it after a couple months or so - so it's free, really. And you saves lives.

I still haven't got my tattoo yet, but after I heal up form it in eventuality, I'll be sure to head back to the donation line
