D&D 3E/3.5 Help Starting 3.5 Characters at Level 9 for Tomb of Horrors

you can get cheaper versions of that item with a wee bit of math.
True, if the number of energy-draining attacks, death effects, and negative energy effects was reduced from 12 all the way to 1. But again, I don't really see the breaking of the dungeon, even if every PC was prepped as such.

Yeah they diluted it in 3E for 9th level.

When I played it in 1979 it was for 10-14th level characters, of which we had 6 and only 2 survived. One of those 2 had Scarab of Protection and, yes, the ability to ignore energy drain (which had no save) and death effects did prove quite useful.

Play the real ToH and find out for yourself...
I've yet to touch any D&D system other than 3.5, so while I'm hesitant, I look forward to giving it a shot at some point. Could be fun, despite the obvious death before us.

yeah, we were playing the original that was being upconverted on the fly by the dm to 3.x. however, some effects were left as is, so we were never quite certain what we were dealing with. rough dungeon, just rough.
