Help with 5th level spells

Teleport is your one required Transmutation spell, so your other spell can be from anywhere.

I would seriously consider Permanency if your GM does a lot of invisible creatures. Permanent See Invisible frees up the spell slot. Some people don't like this (it can be dispelled), but being able to just see them any time someone invisible comes close can be a life saver.

Shadow Evocation is an Illusion spell from the PHB.

I personally like Summon Monster V. Lots of good monsters available, including the elementals. Getting 1-3 Lantern Archons against something that can't fly is also extremely effective.

That spell is kind of the signature spell for 5th-lelvel transmutation, isn't it? ;)

Being the new friend of a Pseudodragon familiar with see invisibility at will and telepathy (not even mentioning the empathic link), See invisibility is not that needed anymore. The other spells that can be permanent won't be available until a few level (2 at least) so I can wait for that one. But it is definitely on my wish list.

Duh! Thanks. That'll teach me to be lazy and count on my memory ;)

I want to stay away from 'pure' conjuration spells (monster summonings) because we also have a conjurer in the party.

Thanks again folks. It is exactly the kind of input I was hoping for. If you still have new ideas, don't hesitate to post them!

Magic jar is fun as hell, its great to jar into a girillion and run him into a wall several times while your allies watch:)

:D I love this one! You'll make me a believer! ;)

Especially since you can replace girallon with your favorite critter...

I can see the party all comfortably installed, passing the popcorn around while watching their (former) opponent bash itself to death head first in a brick wall :D

Dragon pulp anyone? ;)

I just can't see doing it as a spellcaster.

You are possessing the body. The way I read the spell, you are going to feel the pain that you put that body through. Even though it doesn't do any damage to your own body, I wouldn't want to do it just because of the pain.

I can just see the 12-step groups forming for necromancers:
N1: I got addicted to the rush of healing from my Vampiric Touch.
N2: That is nothing compared to the rush of adrenelin from killing a body you inhabit. I've been using Magic Jar for years now, the main problem is remembering not to hurt my own body.

If your dm determines that to be the case, I can completely agree with the rationale. However, by the book, its a perfectly legit way of using the spell.
