help with Arthurian myth Moonshae conversion?

Dundragon

First Post
I am trying to expand the Celtic idea of the Moonshae isles, and I want to create a very mystic, Arthurian myth feel to the place. Does anyone know of an Arthurian campaign setting I could draw from, or a website the perhaps outlines some of the famous sites and personas of the legends? The information does not necessarily need to be British mythology either, Celtic and Irish themes are also welcome as well as Norse.

This is my first step in recreating the Forgotten Realms into a campaign setting that is more mystical and mysterious than the cut and dry Realms outlined in the occasionally good novels and the campaign setting. I really like the FRCS but I a seek more mystery in my campaign setting (and possible a useful way to draw off some of the munchkin steam that seems to pervade the Realms).

Any comments, ideas?

[edit: I know about Pendragon although I haven't read any of the rulebooks, and is GURPS Celtic any good?]

Well, I think it is a natural. The islands' "Goddess" deity is in 3E merely an aspect of Chauntea, though - you might want to change this to a more wilderness-oriented deity, or even make her an aspect of an Elven deity. That would actually set the stage wonderfully for the whole saxon invasion thing, which is the only thing really missing.

Also, the Kendrick deal is very much Arthurian in feel. I don't think your idea will take much effort at all, really, to make a truly unique-for-the-realms concept.

Sorry I can't help more :(

(Ooh, make the floating castle be on a large mythical island and turn that into Avalon, where the avatar of the deity resides:)

Arthur is going to go crazy

Arthurian literature is a wide variety of things, but one thing it isn't it constant. The characters, names, places, and events change in nig and small ways from the supposed historical basis Aurelius Ambrosius, a post Roman British King who apparently had a victory against the Saxons at Mount Badon, to the Arthur of 20th century productions such as First Knight and The Mists of Avalon(book, the movie was horrible).

Here are some URL's to help you get started.

You could just leave The Goddess as she is, and not mention Chauntea at all.

Also...aren't the Northmen invaders the FR equivilent of the Anglo/Saxon/Jutes?

Cheers
Nell.

Who things it's a great idea, actually!
