Draconomicon isn't "kewl" its USEFUL! Especially if you like dragons like I do. :)

You know, I wasn't sold on Draconomicon 100% yet, but if m namesake (not really) likes it then I'm sold. Heh... I couldn't resist.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but what's the difference between Dawnforge and FR? Just the geography?

Pretty much everything, except for certain basic d20/D&D rules. And not even all of those are the same -- for example, Dawnforge doesn't have clerics (or even gods, per se).

It's one of those hyped up super-produced products featured around a monster that doesn't come up often.

The last time I ran a Dragon was in 1983.

I don't see myself needing anything from that book in the next five sessions.

But if I look at it in the store - it looks really 'neato'. It's not what I'd call a highly practical book for day to day keeping a game going.

It's not just a question over my not having used a dragon in years, but even if I did use them - how often would I do so. Dragons are so powerful that if I used them multiple times every five sessions my games would not be very playable. Every book I myself did get is one I would use multiple times in the next five sessions - and most of them multiple times every five sessions. Some of them are on 'constant reference' for anytime I need to answer a basic question about the setup I'm running in.

Now if I were doing a Dungeon crawl, the list would be different, but I still don't see a Dragon book being needed multiple times every five sessions. I'd probably need works on dungeons, Orcs, Kobolds, and so on.

Draconomicon may be the best book WoTC has put out sence MOTP, it is cool in its nature and remains very useful. The only draw back is if you do not use dragons in your games, then it is a great read.

DawnForge I have yet to pick up. Was going to before the holidays but...

Demonwars I saw at GENCON and have looked at often but don't see as needing. It just does not have a hook to get me into it.

Well, I ended up picking up Dawnforge. It's excellent. Like, get me off my lazy Irish-American arse to write a review excellent. I haven't even left the mall(I'm waiting for it to relent at EB so I can go in for my interview) and I've already devoured the book. Now I'm trying to decide between Draconomicon, Complete Warrior, Book of Exalted Deeds, Creature Collection 3, and a few GR paperbacks(like Unholy Warrior's Handbook, which could come in very handy, hehehe, and Bow and Blade).

I recommend Dawnforge to everyone.

And just for the record, the place near me doesn't carry the Book of Elven Fetishism. The owner considers it a "disgusting product designed to cash in on gamers who get slap-happy watching Lodoss."

Oof. They were out of most of the Green Ronin books(although I might go back and drop 30 on Plot and Poison and Bow and Blade together), including the Unholy Warrior's Handbook; so I picked up Malhavoc's Mindscapes instead.

I didn't realize how expensive Draconomicon was! I thought it was 30, at most 35. It's 40 bucks! A bit pricey considering what I can get instead.

Blacky,

Know what you mean. I liked PERUSING the book but still can't quite afford it yet. Did manage to get one of the core 3.5 books (the DMG, they were out of the PHB)

Btw Blacky, if you feel like driving down all this way, I know my gaming store, the Gateway, has a copy of Plots and Poison along with the Unholy Warriors Handbook.
