Help with low magic S&S homebrew

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?
Incidentally I am working on a homebrew with a mch similar flavor, except I will use True20 for rules. Anyway, everything you propose seems good to me. I wouldn't have done it different; I would like to play in it. I say: go on. :)

I know the low-magic, sword & sorcery thing pretty well. As others have said, I would never try to use the standard D&D ruleset as a base. You are just going to end up with a hacked ruelset.

Which ruleset to use really depends on the style of game you want. Do you want a gritty system where death is a swing away or do you want more of a comic-book and tactical system?

If you want the former, Conan and Grim Tales are where it's at. If you want the latter, check out Iron Heroes.

In any event, I find Conan and Grim Tales far superior works than Iron Heroes.

Hmm...apparently I don't have sufficient priveleges to private message. Weird.

Anyway, ruleslawyer, I'd be interested in your offer; but I don't believe in something for nothing, and I have a bunch of old modules and material (and some pdfs, for that matter) that I'd be willing to part with.

Anything you're looking for?

As to all of the suggestions from everyone, I appreciate them, and encourage you to keep 'em coming!

Are you referring to Conan? Compared to IH? That makes absolutely no sense.
I think it does. Conan has a lot more to look up: AP values, one-off class features, non-standardized combat options. While the ruleset may not be as complex as IH's, it can be seen as plenty unwieldy from a certain perspective.

Drop me an e-mail if you like:

I'd be happy to take in trade anything you feel like sparing! Don't feel like you have to pass on too much, though.

From another S&S thread here is my list of classes that, IMO, you should use:

Here's my list:

[sblock=PC Classes]Barbarian
Fighter
Knight (PHBII)
Marshal (MHB)
Noble (DLCS)
Paladin (no-spell varient, ComWar)
Ranger (no-spell varient, ComWar)
Rogue
Scout (ComAdven)
Swashbuckler (ComWar)

It wasn't too hard to par this list down. No divine magic, no arcane magic equals coolness.
[/sblock]

[sblock=NPC Classes]Adept
Aristocrat
Commoner
Expert
Warrior

Archivist (HoH)
Beguiler (PHBII)
Dread Necromancer (HoH)
Hexblade (ComWar)
Sorcerer
Warlock (ComArc)
Warmage (ComArc)
Wizard
Binder (ToM)
Shadowcaster (ToM)
Truenamer (ToM)

The standard NPC classes, plus the arcane classes. Personally, Any of these classes would be great for a BBEG, his minions, etc. The Tome of Magic classes also seem to fit in fairly well; demon binding and whatnot...
[/sblock]

[sblock=Rejected]Artificer (ECS)
Bard
Cleric
Dragon Shaman (PHBII)
Druid
Duskblade (PHBII)
Favoured Soul (ComDiv)
Healer (MHB)
Mystic (DLCS)
Spellthief (ComAdven)
Spirit Shaman (ComDiv)
-
Incarnate (MoI)
Souborn (MoI)
Totemist (MoI)
-
Crusader (ToB)
Swordsage (ToB)
Warblade (ToB)
-
Ardent (ComPsi)
Divine Mind (ComPsi)
Erudite (ComPsi)
Lurk (ComPsi)
Psion (XPH)
Psychic Warrior (XPH)
Soulknife (XPH)
Wilder (XPH)
-
Monk
Ninja (ComAdven)
Samurai (ComWar)
Shaman (OA)
Shujenga (ComeDiv)
Sohei (OA)
Wu Jen (ComArc)

Psionics, Oriental classes, Divine casters and the ragtags make up this list. Pretty much anyhting that doesn't fit... However, Dragon Shaman and the Mystic I could see as being classes for NPCs, if the theme were right. Possible the Spirit Shaman and Bard, too.

Magic of Incarnium and Tome of Battle I have no EXP with, so something might be out of lace with those...
