Help with Magic Item (Setanta Please Stay Out!)

I hate to double-post, but I left this over two weeks ago in "Conversions" and only 10 people have looked at it so far.

I'm using some stuff from the old Basic D&D Module B7: Rahasia. One of the magic items in the book was a gem set into a statue that basically imprisons the soul of the person who touches it in the game, and then releases the current soul in the gem to take over the body of that person. There are three of these spread throughout the module.

I modified it for my purposes to put all three in the same stone "statue" (I actually changed it to a stonehenge-like "standing stone circle").

Anyway, there is a simple way to reverse the process. There is a large black opal that will undo the process once it's placed in a specific location in another standing stone. There is a placed carved out in one of the stones that's just the exact size for the black opal.

However, my characters haven't figured that part out, and so they want to use stone shape to remove the games from the stone. I'm not entirely certain that stone shape would work on this since it's a magic item, but the spell doesn't say that it won't work on magical stone. What do you all think?

As far as how the magic item works, I figure it's probably like a relic/artifact level item. The old Basic module doens't give any specifics, of course, but I figured it's probably some sort of weird combination of trap the soul and magic jar. Does that sound right?

Hello,

I'm at work right now, but I think I have something that could help.

There's a magic dagger (or special metal) in the Arms & Equipment Guide that does something similar to what you want. The weapon holds captive the soul of the last person to die while touching it (usually the person stabbed by it, but also if you die while wielding it). If it's an actual magic item, just go by what it has for pre-reqs (in terms of spells anyway). If it's a special material.... Ummm sorry.

When in doubt, say its an artifact whose manufacture has been lost. If your looking to set a DC or something Magic Jar/Trap the Soul are the right type of spells to look at.

Hope it helps,
Vraille Darkfang
