help with my paladin/sorcerer

parinho7

First Post
i am in a core only campaign (with some hardly gained exceptions). my build is crappy and my rp makes him even worse (but i love it:P) anyway, i am looking for ways to be better in combat situations.

my build is
human ex-paladin(2)/sorcerer(9)
str 14, dex, 14, con 18, int 10, wis 10, cha 18
feats: power attack, combat casting, practiced spellcaster, extend spell, wf(greatsword)
spells
1: enlarge person, mage armor, protection from evil, shield, true strike
2: bull's streangth, bear's endurance, invisibility, see invisibility
3: displacement, heroism, tongues
4: polymorph, greater mirror image
equipment: +2 greatsword, +2 cloak of charisma

practiced spellcaster and greater mirror image are two things i get after a lot of debate with my dm and that would be all that i'll be allowed to use out of core.

my first goal was to became an eldritch knight but i failed to complete a mission i was requested to enter the knighthood, so eldritch knight is no longer an option.
also i managed to become fallen and after a series of certain actions this also became irriversable.

i am one level behind my teamates due to role playing fails, so as you can see i suck:p

i currently hve 5750 gp and i am planning on raising money(!!!) to buy a mithral full plate and a sizing weapon (dm allowed this too).
for next level i plan on leveling as a sorcerer and take still spell and then level up as a fighter.

what do you thing i should do? any suggestions? please help, it sucks to suck in combat:p

also the campaign takes place in faerun and the dm is willing to allow feats from frcs.

So, you have two levels of Fighter With No Bonus Feats, cannot become a Gish, and are one level behind the party.

Suggestions:

1. Two levels in Fighter. Two in Blackguard. One in Sorcerer. Become a Dragon Disciple.
2. Roll a new character.

Of the two, I think the second option is also the best, because then you could copy, say, this build, and call it a day.

i should mention that my dm is quite strict and he loves role playing. when in battle he likes to hustle it and i get a very strong feeling of disapproval when i am polymorphing or popping out 8 mirror images so i try not to push it too much. i say this so the suggestions would be of minimal complexity and easy for my dm to accept!

If you check my first post, you will see that I have expanded upon my original remark.

i tryed this too but i get the feeling of dissaproval yet again from the entire party:P this was my second character, the first was a barbarian who also sucked and i killed him to make the second crappy one. when i didn't became eldrich knight i was dissapointed and tryed to do the same but i was not allowed.

the idea of dragon disciple is quite appealing. i'll have a talk with my dm.

what about feats and spells? is still spell a good idea? i plan to wear armor and be polymorph to a giant. how about that?

Honestly, it would probably work better if you just made a good character and roleplayed him well than trying to salvage the wreck you're saddled with. Your current character will find it hard to contribute to the challenges that will be sent at a party whose other members are a) one level above him and b) in full possession of their class features. I think the time has come to find something that works for you in the game that you are in. Melee classes might not be it, so perhaps you should try a full caster. Full casters don't really suffer too much from being in a core only environment, so it would be a way to play something interesting and powerful without your DM objecting. Or possibly even noticing, depending on his mental stat allocations.

If your DM forbids this kind of play, then I guess you're going to have to try and salvage your PC, but it's going to be like making a sausage; dirty, messy, and extremely unpleasant. As in, you should be prepared to wade through several levels of suck.

get Abjurant Champion... it's five levels of awesome sauce that improve both your BAB and your cast +5 with lots of nice little bonuses thrown in the mix.

How exactly is "core" defined by your DM?
