help with my paladin/sorcerer

i am in a core only campaign (with some hardly gained exceptions). my build is crappy and my rp makes him even worse (but i love it:P) anyway, i am looking for ways to be better in combat situations.

my build is
human ex-paladin(2)/sorcerer(9)
str 14, dex, 14, con 18, int 10, wis 10, cha 18
feats: power attack, combat casting, practiced spellcaster, extend spell, wf(greatsword)
spells
1: enlarge person, mage armor, protection from evil, shield, true strike
2: bull's streangth, bear's endurance, invisibility, see invisibility
3: displacement, heroism, tongues
4: polymorph, greater mirror image
equipment: +2 greatsword, +2 cloak of charisma

practiced spellcaster and greater mirror image are two things i get after a lot of debate with my dm and that would be all that i'll be allowed to use out of core.

my first goal was to became an eldritch knight but i failed to complete a mission i was requested to enter the knighthood, so eldritch knight is no longer an option.
also i managed to become fallen and after a series of certain actions this also became irriversable.

i am one level behind my teamates due to role playing fails, so as you can see i suck:p

i currently hve 5750 gp and i am planning on raising money(!!!) to buy a mithral full plate and a sizing weapon (dm allowed this too).
for next level i plan on leveling as a sorcerer and take still spell and then level up as a fighter.

what do you thing i should do? any suggestions? please help, it sucks to suck in combat:p

also the campaign takes place in faerun and the dm is willing to allow feats from frcs.

I think the first thing that we need to know is: What is the campaign about? Secondly, do you have an idea or concept that you want to play? That will help a lot of build ideas. Being Duncan Mcgregger Captain of the King's Guard is more interesting than Fighter X / Wizard Y / PrC Z.

If you go with mithril fullplate, won't you have a hefty arcane spell failure?

What about assassin? If you've fallen from grace, irrevocably, then maybe its time to become a contract killer? I would see if you could trade the Assassin spell list for bumps to your sorcerer casting instead though. Ask for 5/10 progression.

What about picking up some levels in rogue and going shadow dancer?

Otherawise it may be time to walk up to the castle gate and announce to that you are hear to show the queen your long staff of charming.

we play ready wotc adventures. so far we mostly face giants.

the dm united the adventures as missions given by the temple of pelor in which our "frontman" dwarven cleric gets and he drags us with him. i was a member of the knights of pelor but i resinged to enter the eldrich knights (i failed). now that i am a fallen paladin i'll try to establish a new persona of a confused draconic heritor who wants to explore himself and the powers given to him by his bloodline and i'll tend to be more distant, arrogant and chaotic because i feel like i am something more than just a mortal man, i am a dragon disciple:P (i hope the dm will allow the prc)

If you go with mithril fullplate, won't you have a hefty arcane spell failure?

next level i'll be ex-paladin(2)/sorcerer(10) and i get access to 1 5th level spell, i'll take still spell feat so i'll cast my spells using one level spell slot higher. and for the 5th level spell i think i'll choose teleport that only has verbal components

the dm made me chaotic good, not evil. even if i become evil i'll have much trouble with the rest of the party because they either crush me at role playing and i'll end up not knowing what to say and loose more xp or arrest me because they are do-gooders. also i am happy with chaotic good, it's much easier for me than lawful or evil in a good party, i'd be happier with chaotic neutral though:P

What about picking up some levels in rogue and going shadow dancer?

for now i am going with dragon disciple and if my dm don't allow it then i probably go straight sorcerer

I'm gonna have to suggest that your current character reveals himself to be a weepy drunk and opens his veins after a night spent in front of a neverending supply of cheap whiskey.

If you're not open to suicide, perhaps he gets in a bar fight and takes a bottle to the head. Or, the option of telling the King that you'll happily give the queen the vigorous (censored) (censored) she so obviously craves is always open.

That'll allow you to create a new character, without the baggage of the old.

In addition, I'd suggest that the plan be to make a character who's not going to go for any knighthoods or organizational challenges as part of his development plan, because it sounds like your DM is willing to let you screw those up and derail your development.

Note that I suspect that also, you may want to be sure and suicide, since you might just be stuck in the dungeons and have the other party rescue you after you tell the king that you would like to ride his wife around the courtroom like the horse she most closely resembles.

So, kill your character in a fit of overwrought absinthe-laiden despair, grasp power, and take some single-classed caster type.

I think you should try to die in melee. If your DM is reluctant to let that happen and give you an easy way out, then guess what? You've just made your character IMMORTAL!

I have encouraged players who want to ditch a character who is not working for them and roll a new one to make a noble, sacrificial death, something bordering on epic battle. Such characters redeem themselves and have a place as future NPC's.

One of my players ditched a ninja he made because he discovered it was useless, despite hoping it would be as cool as his imagination believed. He died as the party fled from a pack of Worgs & Winter wolves. He and I met for 2 sessions, the first was a solo mini adventure, the second he brought a buddy. we did a mini quest on the Outer Plane of Acheron where his character progressed from level 1-5 in the afterlife, thus creating a new class for his same character. Due to a fluke accident in the True Resurrection spell, the petitioner he journeyed with (his buddy) was also raised to life with him, introducing a new player and character to the story.

It was fun, goofy, and allowed the rebuilding of an individual the party had grown attached to.

the dm won't allow intentional death, and even if i die naturally my next character will be one level behind, so two levels behind the rest members of the party.

i'll just stick to the plan of dragon disciple.

Your DM sounds harsh to me. Is there any room for a statement such as, "I'm not having fun any more, can I make a change so that I'm having fun again?"

Good Luck.
