Help with racial designs from Inuyasha

Wikid Klown

First Post
I was watching Inuyasha tonight, as I do every other Saturday night, and while studying a map I found on another thread, somethin struck me.
"Why not take races from the show and develope a world?"
I've got the basics, and a few others. The term Demon (for those of you who don't watch) is used differently, not nessicarily evil.
Wolf Demons, Panther Demons, Fox Demons, Bear Demons, Humans, 1/2 breeds for the demons.
I've got the basics, racial modifiers for stats, I've written up most of the Panter Demon Tribe, moving to the Wolves next. I'm modeling them off what the animals act like. Panthers are felines, so they're classy, wolves are canine, so ruff around the edges, foxes are tricksters by nature, and then there's bears.
I've gotten the relation between wolves and panters toward each other and the rest, but I'm having trouble with the Bears and the Foxes, but mostly the bears.
I'm also re-writing most of the classes, making a few more, the usual tweaking. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah, it was pretty good. Post what I have...ok

Panther Demon Tribe

The Panter Demons are archrivals of the Wolf Deom Tribe, though
peace has been kept for 5 decades, since the war ended
(still looking for a name for the war). Panther Demons tend to
build their homes in forested areas, for cover.

Personality: This tribe tends to have the classic feline curiosity,
though they do tend to be attracted to jewlery and are often
arrogant, thinking they are better than others.

Physical Description: Short, slender, and dexterous, the Panther's
range between 4ft and 5 1/2 feet tall, weighing anywhere from
100-150 pounds. Their eyes are usually an emerald green, though,
as any other race, they vary from person to person. Their hair
ranges from a fiery red to a light brown, almost tan shade. They
mature around the age of 30, and can live as long as 140 years of
age. Being feline they need 8 hours of sleep, but they also
need at least one nap a day, the nap must be at least an hour long.

Relations: Panther's have their oppinion of everyone, placing
themselves above others most of the time. The Wolves are mangey
dogs. the two aviod each other most of the time, seldomly joining
and when the rare occasion happenes, it's quiet reluctantly. They
stand friendly grounds with humans, despite they see humans having
poor personal hygeine and are quiet unrefined. The Fox's are
tricksters, the whole lot. Always having fun, never serious, though
they are friendly. Panther's get along fine with the Bears, but only
due to the fact that they can think circles around the big poor
beasts. As for the half-breeds, Panther demons are intolerant,
almost as much as they are about the wolves.

Religion

Names: The Panters recieve names based on how they act, receiving
name around the age of 5 years old. They only give their real
names to those they trust, they give alternate names, or nick
names to those who they associate with, but do not trust
completely.
Male Names: Aramin, Guin, Koss, Stom, Moxie
Female Names: Shido, Goi, Feur, Zan, Stoi
Family Names: Zeklen, Ryuan, Firner, Cakun, Meridom
NickNames: Kyne, Zyi, Frekum (freekoom), Alu, Tobin

Adventures: Panthers are curious, searching for answers constantly.
They may take up adventuring for a number of reasons though, to
stop actions against their nature, to find answers, to seek treasure,
and many others. Many adventures are based on a personal or tribal
need or want.

Panther Demon Racial Traits

+2 Dex, Int, Cha
-2 Con, Wis, Str

Medium Creature: As a meduim creature, Panter Demons have on penalties
or advantages due to size.

Panther base land speed is 40 ft

+2 vs Illusions and sleep spells

Low Light Vision: Panthers can see twice as far as humans in
starlight, moonlight, torchlight, or other such illumination. They
retain the ability to distinguish colors, though it's slightly harder.

Weapon Proficiencies: Panther Demons treat whips and spiked chains as
martial weapons, and gain a +2 competence bonus when handeling them.

+2 racial bonus on Listen, search, spot, and move silently

Automatic Languages: Common and Feline
Bonus Languages: Lupine, Bear, Gnoll, Sylvan

Favored Class: Ninja. A multiclassed Panther does not count when determining whether she takes an esperience point penalty for multiclassing. The skills of a ninja come naturally, the slick and silent ways come to them from their feline bloodlines.

Ok, ninja is a new class I have yet to make. I'm also having trouble with the religion. I'm excluding all races from the PHB execpt humans.
I'm tweaking, making, and removing classes. If you've seen the show, I'm basing it somewhat off that, but not entirely. I'm making alternate paths for monk, a magic style (miroku) and the fighting style (from the PHB), and making fighting styles for the fighting style monks (trying to make the fighting style close to actual martial arts practices). That's it for now, I'll work on it and post what I have.

Just noticed something

I was doing more work, working on the Foxes. Shippo isn't very big, so the fox demon tribe is only going to be about...what, like 2 or 3 feet tall at most?
People think gnomes are small...

I've had nothing to do all day, so I got the Foxes and the Wolves done, and I have the outline for the Ninja class, I just have to put it in tables and all that crap. So here's what I got for Foxes and Wolves.

Wolf Demon Tribe

The Wolf Demons are arrogant, aggressive, and wild. They always
seem to be in a fight with somebody, but due to their constant
fighting, they have aquired great fighthing techinques, and are
known for these ways. Their fighting skills are rivaled by that of
the trickery skills of the Foxes or the stuck up attitudes of the
Panthers.

Personalities: The Wolves are arrogant and aggressive. They are
quickly annoyed, quickly upset, and are even more quickly to
attack. If they don't want your company, they show it openly with
insults. Regaurdless of their liking or disliking for you, they are
blunt, and always speak their mind, seeming not to care what others
think of them.

Physical Description: They. like the others, look quiet like humans,
but their most destiguishable features, and the ones people use to
identify them as Wolves, are their ears and tails. They have long
bushey tails and dog-like ears. They stand anywhere from 4-5ft tall,
weighing 90-140 pounds. Their hair ranges from a silvery white to a
pure black, hitting every shade of brown and red between. The hair
on their head is darker than the fur on their tail. They mature around
the age of 45 and live to be around 300 years old.

Relations:They are friendlywith few, hating the Panther Demons,
frequently annoyed with the games and tricks of the Foxes, and
friendly with the Bears, but only when they need them.
They are, like most, intolerant of the half-breeds.

Alignment: These creatures are bent on chaos, raised into.

Religion: Marior (NG), Nereines(CN)

Languages: Automatic;Common and Lupine. Bonus; Feline, Auguan,
Draconic, Bear, Giant

Names: Wolves gain their names by the leader of that particular pack,
city, or group. They gain their names around the age of 20, and that
name stays with them until the day that they die.
Male Names: Kouga, Weir, Botta, Loewl, Jetri
Female Names: Kagura, Geira, Jeri, Moa, Aisha
Family Names: Seru, Seria, Kiw, Klanklan, Kijipoto

Adventures: The Wolves adventure for easily seen goals, though they
are not always easily reached. Many adventure for the practice with
their favored weapon(s), treasure, some even for information on
opposing tribes that they may be warring with soon.

Racial Traits:

Medium Creature: Wolf Demons receive no penalties or bonuses for their
size.

Base land speed of 30 feet

Lowlight vision: A wolf can see twice as far as a human can in
low illumination and retains the ability to make out details and
colors.

Scent: Wolf Demons have a strong nose, they can track by scent,
sniff out hidded foes, and even notice small scents, such as smoke
from a distance.

+3 racial modifier to Listen, search, survival, and track

Weapon Focus+proficiency w/ any 1 martial weapon, reguardless of
class restrictions.

Favored class: Fighter or Ninja. A wolf Demon recieves no experience
point penalties while multiclassing if they have at least one level
in fighter or ninja.

And the Foxes...

Fox Demon Tribe

The Fox Demon Tribe seems to be welcome everywhere, and by anyone.
They live mostly in forests or hilly areas, but only live where
they feel like they are accepted and wanted. When their games are
overplayed, and people grow weary of their company, they move,
the tribes tend to be quiet nomadic.

Personality: The Foxes adore animals, gems, and games. They are
tricksters, though they do get serious more than most think. The
reason others think they don't get serious, is due to the fact that
they are optomistic about everything, always looking at things in
a good way.

Physical Description: Short and light. Very short. These small
creatures stand between 1ft to 2 1/2 feet tall, weighing 20-40
pounds. Their hair ranges from a dark brown to a dark red. They reach
maturity around 40 and live to be around the age of 350, with the
oldest konwn to be around 500 years old.

Relations: Open minded and very accepting, Foxes are on friendly terms
with all but the Wolves, which get annoyed with their games the
fastest. They are a very friendly people, and few dislike them, those
who do have issues with ancestors of the ones they seek, or with
the particular tribe. Most of the conflicts with Foxes take place
from jokes being taken the wrong way.

Alignment: Foxes are lighthearted, and are usually good. Those who
lean toward the Law are often mages of some sorts, rulers, or the
"stuck up part of our race," as they say. The chaotic ones are
the ones that give out the impression that they never get serious,
always playing games, and over energetic.

Religion: Oraniana or Prillila

Languages: Automatic; common, lupine. Bonus; Feline, bear, Goblin,
Orc, Sylvan

Names: Foxes gain their names by their 10th birthday, it's based
on their personality.
Male Names: Shippo, Frin, Gweegy, Neru, Yur
Female Names: Dashe, Corilla, Holly, Pori, Sha
Family Names: Asht, Stav, Lui, Buhh, Luir

Adventures: Foxes go out on adventures for any number of reasons,
they love to explore.

Fox Racial Traits

+2 Dex, Int
-2 Str

Small: As a small creature, a Fox Demon gains +1 size bonus on attacks,
and a +4 on hide checks, but uses smaller weapons and the carrying
limit is 3/4 that of a meduim size creature.

Base land speed of 20 feet

Low Light Vision: A Fox demon can see twice as far as a human can
in poor illumination, they can still distinguish colors and details
as well as they could in broad daylight.

+4 racial bonus vs illusions, they are tricksters by nature and can
see through tricks easier than others.

+2 to illusions and tricks preformed by Foxes

+4 dodge bonus to Armor Class against monsters of the giant type
(ogres, trolls, and giants), this is from the size and natural ability
of illusions and tricks that Foxes have.

+2 racial bonus to listen, bluff, sense motive, gather information

+2 racial bonus to craft alchemy, the lupine nose of a fox enables them
to monitor any chemical processes by scent as well.

Favored class: Bard, illusionist. A multiclassed Fox Demon doens't
take experience point penalties while multiclassing if they are either
a bard or illusionist.

I still need help on the bears for those of you who read this/care. Any help is appreciated. I'm going to ponder on it, work on the half-breeds and the other classes, and I'll check this again by the end of the night. Thanks again for any help you are willing to offer, despite the fact I haven't received any yet. :\

Bear Demon Tribe

This tribe of demons stays in seclusion most of the time, rarely
leaving their mountainous homes. They don't interact much with the
Panther demons, they use words that nobody understands. The Wolves are
to aggressive, aren't laid back enough to enjoy the bears, and the
Foxes are too energetic to listen, so the bears tend to stay with
bears.

Personality: The Bears are an easy going people, cool and calm, though
when they do get mad, you know. You can tell becuase these laid back
people get very aggressive, often their eyes even change and gain a
tint of red. They are very friendly however, and car for their family,
friends, and anything that hasn't tried to harm them.

Physical Description: Bears are tall and heavy set. They stand at a
large 6-7 foot tall, wieghing between 180 and 250 pounds. Their eyes
show a wild thing inside, waiting to be let go. Their hair ranges from
jet black to a light brown.

Relations: They stay secluded in their mountain ranges, only leaving
when a natural desaster occours, somebody becons them, or they need to
for something to further themselves or their loved ones. They are
friendly toward all that haven't tried harming them or their loved
ones, but aren't very social. Usually, they only interact with people
outside of their race if those people seek their companionship or help.

Alignment: The bears tend to lean to a lawful way of life, where
everything is simple and wars aren't often. They constantly seek
peace, and use fighting as a last option most of the time.

Religion: Dablak(N), Kaznur(LG)

Language: Automatic; Bear, Common. Bonus: Terran, Giant, Orc,
Undercommon

Names: The Bears aren't very big on names, they have a first and last
name, nothin else, no religious names, middle names, not even nick
names.
Male Names: Thokk, Gell, Buir, Gein, Stin
Female Names: Vola, Engong, Neega, Stuir, Neeri
Family Names: Keii, Neur, Liro, Skuo, Bune

Adventures: Bears adventure for few reasons. They adventure to further
themselve, their friends, or their family. Very sledom to they
adventure for strictly treasure, but they do require their share for
any work that they preform.

Racial Traits:
+2 Str, Con
-2 Int, Cha

Meduim Creature: As a meduim creature, the Bear Demons don't gain any
advantages or disadvantages due to size.

Base land speed of 30ft

Darkvision: Bear Demons can see 60ft in the dark, they see black and
white, but can still recognize details.

Bear demons have more endurance than most others, they automatically
get the Run feat.

Favored Class: Fighter or Barbarian. A multiclassed fighter or
barbarian doesn't take experience point penalties for multiclassing.

There ya go, thanks for none of the help :( . Please comment on them and help me change them to make them better.

A couple of points, as the whole wolf, panther, fox tribe bothers me.

Lets start with they are *not* demons. They seem to be bastardizations of the hengeyokai. Shippo isn't a fox demon, he's a kistune (shapeshifting mischevious fox spirits). And the badger guy who's name I cannot recall at the moment is a takuni (shapeshifting trickster badger spirit). If a crow guy show's up, he's not crow tribe, he's a kenku. I'd suggest going to your local library and see if they have a book on Japanese mythology.

Sesshomaru's minion (again my memory fails) looks like a minor goblin, and a bunch of the other random demons faced by our crew of intrepid heroes seem to be oni of one sort or another, along witha hebi-no-onna (snake woman) from the first episode.

I think "demon" is a less than stellar translation of kami or hengeyokai. You can't just call them spirits because they aren't necessarily disembodied. They are certainly do not follow the natural laws we mortals must abide by, so you can't really call them species or something like that either. They aren't immortal since they can be killed. I believe the translators were under a lot of pressure to make things accessible to American audiences, especially considering that there weren't any episodes explaining exactly what a kami or hengeyokai is. Repeatedly saying, "supernatural creature" is simply awkward.

Yet I agree that saying "demon" has connotations of malevolence that is not inherent to the creatures in Inuyasha. True, most of these creatures are rather amoral and don't seem to empathize with humans very much, but not all of them are evil. In nature, they seem to resemble the fae more than they do angels or demons.

Sesshomaru's minion (again my memory fails) looks like a minor goblin, and a bunch of the other random demons faced by our crew of intrepid heroes seem to be oni of one sort or another, along witha hebi-no-onna (snake woman) from the first episode.

Jakken is, quite literally, a toady.

People think gnomes are small...

That's because Shippo is a little kid, not because fox demons are small.

'Demon' is used as a general term for 'supernatural creature'.

Geoff.

power levels

I know it is a anime and power levels are greatly exatrated, but for Inuyasha this is especially true. For example, if we use the normal human stats for a human, them even a half demon can easily put down quite a few humans per strike. That would mean that the EL would be +3 or +4 for a half demon (assuming that its one that has a name and usually talks for example) and I think a little under half that for full demons.
And just to throw more info more out there, lets say that sango and miroku are like level 5 when we meet them, that would assume that any demons they met before that would all be very minor ones. They could even be lower levels and they just have powerful special attacks (think BESM d20). Just a few things to consider
