Help with s/b build pls

reminds me of my first swse game. 4 hours into it and as we finally got into combat i got crit'd on by some lvl 1 minion, max damage on roll. While i rolled 3 1's in a row.

The bright spot on the carpet was not just my brains, i gave another character a destiny point for my death since she was my sister (in game).

The initial total result- the one that first sent him tumbling- and the die roll were identical: there were certain negative mods due to the situation...that were perfectly balanced by my stats & training.

Subsequent rolls to do things like grab the rail as he went over and such were also 2s-4s on the die rolls- it was an obscenely bad sequence- but even with mods, never got to anywhere near saving him.

*splat*

(Not everyone tried their hardest to save him, though- the thief didn't remove his ring of Feather Falling and throw it to him so he could catch it, John Woo style. Selfish bastard.)

As Kitcik's signature goes:
"The secret we should never let the gamemasters know is that they don't need any rules." - Gary Gygax

I know a few DM's that would have just said reroll a check or two there because of how crappy/repetitive it got. Sure there's rules, but the DM is still in charge and can bend or break them any way (s)he pleases. Although he does have to face the wrath of the players.

As for him getting mad at you for asking questions, of course a new player will ask questions! What's stuck up his butt to make him like that? At the very least he could have said "Go look at the books again" instead of curbing you into the situation you're in now.

For giggles, I kept rolling dice for the rest of the combat after my PC's demise. Believe me, additional rolls wouldn't have helped- that PC was doomed to die...by die! Not a single roll had double digits on it.

Apparently, even in alternative universes, he fell to his death!

I have experience building and playing dual shield users, a fighting style that's alien to most and thus appeals to me. The build is based around losing the use / AC bonus of one of the shields for a turn to do something like hurl it at someone or protect an ally, still having the other shield for AC. Such a build, even with dual Spiked Bashing heavy shields can't do decent damage without sneak attack or the like (dipping rogue isn't a bad thing to do), it's more focused on bodyguarding.

Let me know if you would like to make such a character. For starters, two points:
1) The only reason to take Shield Specialization is to qualify for Shield Ward. I see these feat progressions showing the former and not the latter and I just have to scratch my head.
2) Check out the Wall of Steel teamwork benefit in PHB2. It's awesome and it's a teamwork benefit, so it doesn't even cost you a feat!
