Help with size modifiers

Hi Everyone,

Maybe you can help me regarding these size modifier questions. I may be wrong on the actual modifier numbers, but the substance of the question is what I am more concerned about. Here it goes:

1) If a medium-sized creature is fighting a diminutive creature, the diminutive creature gets a +4 AC bonus because of size. That makes sense, since it would be harder to hit. On the same token, when it attacks the larger creature, does the larger creature have a -4 to its AC? The reason I ask this is because a colassal creature has a negative modifier for size when a medium creature is attacking it. Isn't a medium-sized creature effectively "colossal" to a diminutuve-sized creature?

2) If two colossal creatures or two diminutive creatures are fighting each other, do the modifiers apply, or are they simply ignored? For example would a fine creature still receive a +8 to its AC if it were fighting another fine creature?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

Creatures get bonuse to AC and attack. So, when a diminative creatures fights, he already has a +4 size bonus factored into his attack bonus. So, the Dim verse the med creature, the size is already included.

For the two collassal creatures, it's the same way. They both have -8 to the AC but they both also have -8 to attack. So they cancel out each other.

All the size bonuses to attack and AC should be included into the stats of all creatures.

No no no. It *never* matters who is attacking who. the size modifiers *always* apply to AC and attack roll. The diminutive creature gets +4 AC and +4 to hit, whereas the medium sized guy gets neither.

However, you'll notice that a diminutive creature's +4 to hit is effectively cancelled out when attacking another diminutive creature, because that creature's AC is getting a +4 bonus due to its size.

That's why a medium sized creature attacking a medium sized creature works just like a tiny creature attacking another tiny creature... the bonuses always cancel out when both combatants are the same size.

Hope this helps,

Thanks for the quick replies. I'm pretty sure I udnerstand what you're getting at, but bear with me.

So a Large creature vs. a Medium creature would have a -1 to his AC and a -1 to his attack roll? Again, sorry, but I just wanted to make sure I'm understanding this correctly.

Yes. Remember it doesn't matter what size the large creature is attacking. The large creature always has -1 to attack and -1 AC.
