Not when you're "surrounded by 3-8 barbarians". At best it would buy him a round, because the barb's will go through those mirror images like butter. (Better hope they don't have Cleave either!)

Shadow Touch, also from Relics and Rituals is great for Necromancers. Use it on enemies or (if you're evil) peasants. Then you've got 2HD per level of Incorporeal, Strength Draining undead to be your backup. Those 3-8 Barbarians won't be doing too good when they have a 2 strength. :)

My prohibited school IS illusion, otherwise I would be invisible all the time.
I use SMII to summon Ssha, a lemure with awesome stats to protect me but that's still not enough.
creating shadows... well I'm NG so might cause problem, but that might be the solution...

Nonsense! I know a good number of NG necromancers...Course they all live in Hollowfaust! ;) So might be a problem there...
