Help with the Lasher class

Chaotic Archon

First Post
I'm starting as a fighter, so it will take me 5 levels to get the +5 base attack bonus requirement. My basic goal is to dual wield mighty(+4) whip daggers.

Here are my questions:
a) Is there any feat I can take before I get the lasher levels that will remove the attack of opportunity I'll draw everytime I attack when in a threatened square? (It may seem like a waste of a feat, but 5 levels is a long time to keep your distance, especially since I'm the only fighter in the group) :D

b) I have some confusion about how the weapons are treated. The description says it's a melee weapon, but treated as a ranged weapon when you attack (in terms of drawing an attack of opportunity). Would I need the precise shot feat to attack something engaged in melee combat with someone else and not take a -4 penalty?

c) Does power attack work with a mighty whip/mighty dagger whip?

Thanks

(A) ... nope. Here's an idea, don't attack from a threatened square ... take that 5' step back, and THEN smack them around.

(B) ... no, it's a melee weapon that provokes AoOs as if it were a ranged weapon. No feat required.

(C) ... as long as it meets all other prerequisites, in terms of relative size, etc, then yes ... it should.

Are you playing 3.5 or 3.0? In 3.5, the lasher doesn't really fit, because the rules have changed a bit. Whips used to ranged weapons that had a limited reach. Now they're melee weapons that just have some of the drawbacks of ranged ones. You can use your Strength bonus, and even power attack, with a whip.

Assuming you don't level up too fast, you might be interested in E.N.Publishing's "E.N.Arsenal: Whips," coming out in August. It's 30 pages devoted solely to whips and various whip-like weapons.
